Clicking knee.

Probably covered many times, but here goes...

Has anyone 'suffered' from a clicking knee, but only when walking slowly or going down stairs? I've had this come on during the past few days, but it's not painful as such, apart from an occasional twinge. It doesn't have any effect on running (so far), and I can't feel anything during a run, but the following morning it's pretty noticeable going down stairs. As I said, it's not painful as such, but I get an odd sensation which I can only describe as a feeling that it's going to let go. Is that feeling just my mind working to avoid injury, or is it a problem to be worried about? Interested to know others experiences....

I don't think it's anything to worry about.  I've had the same now and then, going downstairs, and has not resulted in injury
  • It probably wouldn't hurt to strengthen your legs but as Shades said, it's pretty common. My knees can sound pretty awful, particularly on stairs, but I still run marathons.
  • Hi, yes, I have this regularly. It does not cause any issues but would agree with Cal in that strengthening is always sensible and also plenty of stretching helps too (quads, hamstring, calf muscles, etc.)
  • What's the kneeike when it's being stretched is there a relief or pain .

Also what about hopping on one leg or squatting on. One leg any change in the feeling ?

Neither to be honest, it’s only noticeable on a slightly bent knee under low load when walking or coming down stairs. Never any paid during running, regardless of speed. It’s also intermittent, not doing it at the moment.
