The Thousand Mile Club - 2019

Continuing the success of the threads over the past 4 or 5 years, here is the 2019 edition.

Good luck one and all!

  • Thanks Andrew - you're the thread "Dad" for 2019

I'm throwing my hat into the ring again - and I'm going to put my metaphorical money on you getting the elusive 1K miles in 2019... don't let me down!

  • AndrewD

    No pressure lol

Oh, thanks for being Thread Daddy
  • FYI

The original Thousand Mile thread was started by StylishFella
  • Andrew: thanks for getting the ball rolling, I'm in again.
  • In for this year. Let's hope I don't get injured.
  • I'm in...looking forward to all the miles and the stories and tails that go with them.

I'm in, hoping for a better year, got a few races booked already, tempted by Manchester Nell, but have entered Boston instead, but the one in Lincs, bit cheaper and v flat, so hopefully will get a GFA time there.

Looked at Harmanders list, at 1st glance I thought that Eastbourne Mara looked mad, 105 laps?, but then, absolutely flat, always near a rest stop, peeps to chat to, perhaps not so mad after all. Alternative, Halstead is a fantastic run, so well organised, but flat it ain't! Won't stop me doing it though, just love that run, but very tough.

Looking forward to all the race reports
  • I'm back in for 2019, don't think I can match Harmander though.

Plans for 2019, Dubai marathon on 25th Jan, must get my entry in and the Stupa to Stupa ultra (54k) in Kathmandu in March, also not yet entered....
  • I'm in, gonna be a slow start this year methinks  ... but i'll hope for a stronger finish.
  • I'm here again but in a similar boat to Cal, made it to over 1300 in 2015 but injury hit me hard in each of the last three years. Made it to 698 this year which is my best since 2015 but I'm going to be making a slow start as I get over a minor muscle strain picked up in a marathon last week!
  • Evening all, I will give it another shot again, l am hoping for around the 1500 mark this year as have a couple more ultras booked!

Thanks to Andrew for being dad, best of luck for this year.

Senidm, meant to ask, are you planning on taking part in the spitfire 24 this year? Was maybe thinking about it.

    Good luck everyone!
  • senidMsenidM ✭✭✭
David Charman, yes, am booked in for the Spitfire, part of a team of 6 this year, having soloed and run in a pair for the last couple of years, think I'll take it a bit easier this year, just 4 or 5 laps (10Kish each) instead of trying for the the 10+.

Its a great event, lovely atmosphere, very nice course, and for me very local and I run the course most weeks.

Off to a good start with a parkrun double plus a two mile jog to get to person who was giving me a lift to the first one. Decent times at both too. I was only a second off my home run PB, which surprised me given it was my second run of the morning.
  • Opened my account with 4.05 miles
  • JT141JT141 ✭✭✭
13.1miles today. Really tired though. I'm currently 30% chocolate.
  • Welcome back PompeyMatt.
Guess I am in second place with 8.87 miles including Parkrun this morning.
Will console myself with the fastest Parkrun of the year so far. lol

Sounds like a good challenge, I'll go for this.

Went for a 10.5k hill run this morning with 1500ft elevation, nice to break into it after 2 days rest!

    Evenin' all!

Good luck in Boston senidM - I believe there's a debate between Manchester and Boston (UK) as to which is the flattest (non-laps) marathon in the UK. What's your GFA target?

Take it steady at the start, Steven, and push on a bit later... just like the ideal race (in theory)

Well done on being the first to log in 2019, Cal  Nice parkrun double.

Glad your festive season partying didn't interfere with a NYD run, Dubai. Good luck with the imminent marathon!

Top mileage JT141 - leaping into the lead there... hmmmm... *wonders which 30% of JT is currently chocolate*

Congrats on the speedy parkrun, Harmander - great start to the year.

Nice to see you again PompeyMatt, and welcome rav_n... you should have a little cog wheel in the top right corner of your post, if you click up there you should get the option to Edit. You only get one hour to make any edits.

A very late night trot in the woods for me. A frosty and moonlit night - just me and my runner's body light, harness thingy... lovely. It's now traditional for me to do a birthday run in the forest on NYD and I left it a bit late but didn't want to miss it. The last thing hubby said to me as I headed out was "You're a nutter!"

... where is everyone's YTD...?

    YTD: 7.05 miles.

  • Happy birthday Nell!

    12.36 miles this morning

    YTD 16.41 miles

JT, I still have so much chocolate in the fridge. Most of it's dark, though, so it's basically health food.

Out at 6am for 10 miles in a new pair of shoes (Epic Reacts, which are the same as the old pair, except newer, and oranger. Very, very violently orange).

    YTD 18 miles.
  • Happy New Year everyone.

I'm new to this thread, but ran 1055 miles in 2018, so hope I may join you for 2019.
