Probably best that the drama comes out up front! Our bags made the plane, but we didn't. I'm back at the hotel without me toothbrush! Pilot received a revised weather forecast and pulled the flight. The event still takes place it just drifts to the right by at least 12 hours. Will update again when there is more news.
Sat in my hotel room awaiting the late 8am update, got a new toothbrush this morning, and just Nivea'd my feet (is that too much detail?)... Can you tell I have time on my hands? Where is that email?
Wouldn't be an event involving lowrez without travel drama beforehand! Glad you got a toothbrush, lowrez - and best of luck for the flight getting moving soon.
Next update 9:45 your time but they tend to come out later than intended. The issue seems to be concern over wazzing a Boeing 757 down the ice runway in 30kph cross winds - ha ha, no concerns about bunging us out the door, if they could land, and making us run in it! So, they are looking at the option of using an Ilyushin 76 to punch their way in! This reminds me of the landfall sequence from one of the Alien films it's looking like they want to move the event 24 hours back from the table I gave you a couple of days ago which should make it easy for observers to follow, but, they are also saying stay by the phone and don't go on a day safari because they would much prefer to use the 757 and we could just be an hour away from leaving at any time.
The forecast, seems to be improving over the next 24 hours so they have locked in a departure time using the Ilyushin of 7am your time tomorrow morning... and... they've decided to run the Cape Town marathon first, tonight, at 5pm your time. Not sure how I feel about that, I'll need to be at the pick-up point for the airport by 5am your time and I reckon it'll take me 7 hours to complete the Cape Town leg, not much down time post "run" but at least we will have time on the plane for sleep - ha ha, we won't get any shut eye in that tin can will we?
I was going to ask if shifting the start time by 12h meant you’d be doing marathons at night time in the dark, or things that were planned for the cool of the night switch to heat of the day? I guess whilst a long delay is frustrating 24-hour may be better than 12?
Ooh, Cape Town at 5pm shows a warm and very windy forecast! ( The notorious South Easter). You might get blown all the way to your next one tomorrow! Have a good one this eve.
I'm liking the sunless start, caught the sun in a couple of places whilst on The Table a couple of days ago and still a bit red and sore. So the first two will not antagonise that and provide more healing time. Still going to factor 30 it up tonight though with this very blustery wind throwing itself around. It'll be 20C at the kick-off, 5pm UK time dropping to 18C within a couple of hours, that still feels like vest temperature to me, but I'll take more layers in a kit bag.
They are still working on the reschedule for the rest of the races, say it will be published by 3pm UK time, hoping they will still go towards darkness in Perth and Dubai.
You are right concerning sleep SS, even if I was in 5hr form I guess I wouldn't be resting much more.
I've been trying to work out the time difference, its about my bedtime here in China, i reckon you'll be finishing just after I wake up, so first thing i'll do is look and see how its going. Have a great run!
Great work McH they are posting pictures on the site too, gotta dash 45 mins before the coach leaves for the airport and Antarctica and I need to leg it 600 metres around the corner to the pickup point, might just make it!
I borrowed the organisers aviator sunglasses last night, we all got a spa level exfoliation from the sand being blasted at us in that wind... they were hanging off my face, just oval lenses with straight arms sitting on the ears... they blew completely off my face and flew into the Atlantic Ocean... he was not pleased Check out my activity on Strava: https://strava.app.link/IdZEpJWxS
Thanks SS, worryingly that left side malaise surfaced a bit around mile 20 but I can control it a lot better at this lower rate of Knott's... Pretty sure today is going to be quite a bit slower. Things are holding together
