Hi EP, I go to Fitness First and they have some good instructors there. They also have Personal Trainers who will work out a programme just for you but they charge extra. I've found that some of the body building guys are quite helpful too (although some of them are soooo serious you wouldn't dare ask them anything!). The weight machines are a really good way to build up the strength in your legs and arms - they have pictures on them so you can work out what to do yourself.
Classes like body pump are a very good and safe way to get into light weight training. It's a class done to music and it involves very high repetitions of light weights. That fact that it's a class encourages you to attend and the group gives you much needed motivation.
I know that Cannon's gyms have body pump classes but I believe that other gyms do them too.
Hmmm... you could always spend 30 quid and get yourself some dumbells and a Swiss ball to use at home... the 5yr old can watch telly or throw things at you when you're trying to exercise
I must admit... women in footy kit normally look better in fantasy than reality... (but there are exceptions to every rule and I'm sure you're exceptional Lamb)

My skin may be waterproof but i never go out in it because it needs ironing.
Forgot to eat then succumbed to the Boost with glucose thats been lurking - very (too) sweet
You need to get yourself a training partner (other than the 5yr old) so that you go regularly
Hockey players prefer oranges
