Knee bursitis

Hi all. I fell down some concrete stairs 2 years ago. Pretty sure I broke something in my knee? Ever since, when I try to start running again I have knee pain which has been diagnosed over the phone as goose foot knee / bursitis. Any advice on how to get back running again ?
