Energy bars, drinks, gels etc

I'm sure it's been asked before but I can't find the thread. What are the best tasting/effective energy drinks, bars etc to consume pre and during races. I've put gels on here as well but find them difficult to get down - are there any that taste like something you might want to consume???


  • banana-flavoured High5 energy gels - a disgusting thought under normal circumstances (though they might appeal to a seven year old's palate), but taken during a long run or a race, they're absolute bliss.

    but I'd have to agree that a mouthful of gel is not one of the great gustatory experiences, and the trail of slime they leave down your thighs is frankly unmentionable.
