My hayfever appears to be on the turn and have had an ear infection for nearly 4 months, but got the syringed yesterday - feel like a new woman - just need some new legs if anyone knows of any going! Pants, you're doing great! And I know about the weight thing. I am going for some research today which is full body scanning which will tell me exactly what muscle, fat and bone I have and then I will truly know what I can do about it - as opposed to the skinfold tests - which I believe are the next most accurate for telling you your body fat. I am unusually heavy and a non conformist to the weight/power charts, so I will let you know what transpires and whether it is open to everyone. It's in London.
I did Smashy, but it was hard work. Started far to fast 1st mile under 5 minutes, by 2 mile marker 10:10. Halfway was still okay at 36mins, then every mile got slower.
3 races in 3 weeks done inc 32min 10k PB at Richmond last week. No races for 3 weeks now, a few days recovery, then build the mileage again.
Pantman, I will let you know - should get the feedback tomorrow - need to chase it. Apparently I should be a swimmer - I look far too healthy to be a marathon runner - heard that one before - I think what that basically means is that I am fatter than most marathon runners. No surprises there then!
I know some of you went to Bill Adcock's seminar earlier this year. There is a book coming out by the man himself called "The Road to Athens". Thought worth mentioning ...
Have sent off for the Adcocks book. Just a guess but I wonder if the themes will be...
1. Athletes today don't train hard enough 2. Racing as part of a club makes you fast 3. Physical work is no barrier to marathon success 4. Cut my arm and you'll see `Coventry Godiva Harriers' written across here:-) 5. There were no fancy trainers in my day
Ho ho! Funnily enough, we went there when I did the canterbury 10 - don't normally, honestly guv - maybe I thought there was a chance we might bump into someone we know! - the CG thread got me giggling!
Also interesting to see that the Zatopek book by Bob Phillips looks as though it has been reprinted and is available again. Plenty of new reading at least to keep me occupied through this non-running period.
Simon-I've got the Bob Phillips Zatopek book. Not that good really. Reads like a load of newspaper reports pasted together. No interviews with coaches / running partners etc. Didn't really learn much about Zatopek the man or the athlete.
Ran the wycombe half this morning as a fast training run. Seeing Hugh Lobb on the start line, there was no chance of winning anyway. Long steep uphill for the first 2 miles, and if any of you have run this you know what I'm talking about. Finished 4th in a little over 1:15, quite pleased with this as I ran hard reps Monday and Friday, and a fast 20 miler on wednesday. Total weeks mileage was 85-90m. £50 in argos vouchers into the bargain, so all in all, not a bad mornings work. Hugh Lobb ran it in about 1:06-7. Hows all your training going?
Had a couple of unimpressive work sessions of late - not going as well as I had hoped. Weight also not decreasing at all - even a slight increase while carbing up for ND30K. Result? = long way to go to 2:30 still... :-(
RD, can you let us know what races you are planning this summer - that way we can avoid you... ;-)
I ran a southern league 5k Saturday and set a seasons best of 15.37. In all moving in the right direction, hopefully I will get a good time at the southern 10k in August before a couple of road races then Berlin.
I am aiming for sub 2.30 in Berlin. If I can do 15.30 for 5k, then I should be able to run 32 exactly for 10k, and as a rule of thumb 32 = 2.30 i.e. 30 = 2.20 + 5 mins for each min over 30. Hopefully I can squeeze a bit more out of my 5k before the track season is over, and by the time I run a 1/2 in September I will be just below 1.10. or thereabouts.
I have also read the Bill Adcocks book. It was an enjoyable read. A bit more detail like in Ron HIll's - Long Hard Road may have given it a bit more flavour.

I expect you to be seriously snapping at my heels soon, so my race plans will have to remain secret.
Thanks Spud..What's your next race? and how's the training going?
RD - It'll be a while at this rate...
