TS - might see you whilst waiting for the ferry to Ryde then! Enjoy your race.
MRF - IOW marathon is renowned for being hard, hilly and hot. Having had my 'warm weather training' at Stratford i hope I'll be OK on 1 out of 3. I did GWR (half marathon) last weekend, it was hot too, but I felt OK, in fact it felt quite cool in comparison.
I desperately want to break 5 hours on this course, unlikely I think this year.
2 years ago I did 5.23, last year I did 5.00.10 - we had some heavy rain, then the sun came out, if only I hadn't stopped to borrow a tissue from a marshal to wipe the rain off my shades I would have made it!
Flipper - i did have a tissue, the rain was a torrential downpour and I was soaked completely from head to toe.
I've heard the 5 4 3 2 1 is a great event, have never done it as it usually clashes with the IOM. It doesn't clash this year, so I might do it although I was trying to avoid off road. Will let you know.
Ed - it was sunny when we stated the race and I have to wear the shades, it's my trademark
Just an important message to say the Isle of Wight forumite social will go ahead, but has now been renamed the BILLY NO MATES SOCIAL and I won't bother taking my camera.
Ahhhhh Shades! I'm feeling all sorry for you now, but maybe it confirms you're the most insane person on this forum as you're the only one mad enough to do this event? I think a round of applause is called for (clap, clap, clap...)
PS Maybe we can entice Ali along to the 54321 event???
I did manage to break the 5 hours. 4.55.38 by my watch, am really pleased as this is a hard marathon. This is a great race, but tough, and quite a few doing their first marathon over this course which is impressive. Am a bit tired today as didn't get home until 10.30 (having left at 5 am). Weather was perfect for running, about 15-17 degrees, mainly overcast, but a little humid perhaps.
The billy No Mates social went well, fish'n'chips and a cup of tea, sat on the sea front, lovely.
I was invited to 2 post race non-forumite socials, but declined.
Fliss - don't think Ali would do any other marathon exept FLM!
Just seen this post today.. Might well do the IOW marathon next year as have friends over there so that would be good and mean not having to get up too early...! This year was too close to FLM which was my first marathon, well too close for my liking anyway!!
That's a really good time as I can imagine the course is pretty tough too...fish and chips sounded yum! Nice one!
Well done Shades - that's a very good time on a testing course. Obviously Robert didn't do it this year as I saw him yesterday morning running past Tesco. Anything else planned before the Discovery?
loubeloo - I bought the fish'n'chips from a chip shop we ran past in the race. It's called 'The Cod Father' with a byline of 'we will batter anything', which made me laugh.
Dunnarunner - Ewan had a good run and finished in 3.47, perfect training for the Discovery. Robert wasn't there, I think he may of got his dates wrong (again)as he will insist on using Run Down and then not checking the info is right. Next 2 Sundays I am taking my girls out for a 10 and 12 miler for their half marathon training (Dartmoor Vale), then Plymouth half on the 30th.
And i thought you were eating your fish and chips whilst looking out to sea after having finished - fairplay to you!! Where is that fish shop - it rings a bell, must have seen it myself sometime!
Ewan seems to have got the marathon bug for one so young. It wouldn't surprise me if he didn't go on to do the Dartmoor Vale marathon after the Discovery. That'd make 4 marathons or further in less than 2 months.

Not doing it but will give you a wave from across the Solent as I do the Portsmouth Race for Life!!

Looks like I am the only forumite then for this year......
Awwww good luck Shades, shame you're doing it on your own, so to speak ..
Hope your camera has a self-timer Shades . . how else will we see any evidence
Have a good 'un . .
Rob
P.s Hope you do well mate
How are you Flipper? What races have you planned for later in the year, another marathon perhaps?

I've got a couple of 10K's planned and I'm thinking of doing the Sailsbury 5-4-3-2-1 in August.
unlikely i know
