Both mine and my partner's cheques were cashed on 28th October, and neither of us bequeathed. I'm still in a state of shock, although my partner's in bigger state of shock because when he took me to the marathon last year and cheered me round, he said how much he would have liked to have joined me, especially during all my training in the wind and rain before (sarcastic). Well, I've told him that now he can !! Mind you, with the ballot system I don't take anything for granted, so I'll wait to the see the confirmation. Good luck to you all, especially everyone with golden bond places, because although I do run for charity, I do wonder how some of those large amounts of dosh are raised.
I run for charity and the 1st time I rasied £8,000, but its been a nightmare since, i usually do about £2500, these people who raise 20,30 ,50 or even £100K must rob banks to get it !!
The inside track says that 20,000 entries were lost by the post office last year (the SE1 sorting office had had a period of strikes and the post from this exchange was crap). Anyhow FLM decided to release a second batch of places to compensate runners.
No such luck this year though as the SE1 sorting office has actually worked all year... sorry if you are a postman but its a mojor inconveniance to business when you guys go on strike and we don't get our cheques from our customers...
I’ve just found out that I’m the only member of the club I attend that has put in for FLM this year – so if I don’t get in I’ll probably get the clubs guaranteed entry )
Baa Humbug! Checking the account every day only brings it home to me that i haven't been accepted this year! Have contacted the charity i wish to run for, to be told they have only 60 places and 600 people have applied for a golden bond place so far! They are therefore having a ballot for their places also. Looks like Paris, even if i don't like the food.
I haven't checked my back account yet but for those of you who reckon you are not accepted remember the Rotterdam Marathon is on the same day. Having worked there 18 months recently, I reccommend you go there instead. I know Paris is a week B4 why not do both and cycle the 180 miles to Rotterdam on the days in between. EEyin
Dont know if Ive missed any offical date when things are supposed to happen But Im with Fazza I Bequethed and no cheques have been cashed from my bank. I think you're better off waiting for the envolope to arrive. This is the 6th FLM Ive tried for (3 no's & 2 yippees so far) If its worth anything My Yippees have came early Dec & My no's always late Dec........so who knows.
Would every one place calm down . The confirmation for the FLM will be out between the 27 th November and 10th December2002 so please stop getting all up tight about this matter , in the pass i have not got into FLM but i have continued to train , if any one does not get into the FLM there are loads of charitys that would grab you up. so please keep training as you may be lucky this year.
My cheque has been cashed on 29th October, but I bequeathed my entry fee so I don't know whether I am in. I have accepted a charity place already; if I do get a place, does that mean I can keep my 'own' place till 2004? Does anyone know?
Carin sorry to say that you cant keep your place for another year . I think the plan for you is to stay with the charity place and if you you get a place with with FLM well you havent lost anything , good luck on the training.
As we do not know yet who has and who hasn't got in 2 the FLM I will continue to train. Is ther anyone who can recommend an alternative if I fail. This will be my 1st marathon but have done Plymouth 1/2 and a few 10Ks.I live in Poole and a journey to Scotland is too far away.
richk, Thanks, that sounds good to me.My cheque hasn't been cashed yet so only time will tell.If no success then I'm off to Taunton.Cheers.(any idea of last entry for that one?)
Closing date's usually 2 weeks before the event, so no need to worry.
Taunton's usually listed in the RW directory although it's not there just now . . there's a list of this year's UK marathon's at http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/news/article.asp?UAN=552 which doesn't include Taunton altho' as the link to results I found last time tells us it did take place. It says there's one on the Isle of Wight in May as well. But let's hope we're all lucky with FLM eh?
Tracy, I would suggest eating lots of chocolate. The box of Roses I bought for Christmas was well and truly demolished last night and didn't even run them off this morning. Watch out Jabba the hut I could end up becoming your body double !
My fleece doesn't even fit me. Anyone want to buy a fleece for £40,so that I can at least make a profit somewhere along the line. By the way, when is Paris?

But if you're looking for a big city, big crowd, mass participation event then Taunton isn't for you!
The ladies results from this year's race are at http://www.runnerswebuk.com/tm02_fp1.html and 117 men finished as well.
