Indian Queens, nr Newquay 01/08/04 (2003 - 2:06:11 Course Best)
It is a tough course & can be VERY hot - I should be able to tell if I've improved !! as I have done it every year since 1998 (except 2000) when it was my first (2:06:34) & ran Burnham Beeches (1:59:48!) 2 wks later
hilly - to add a bit of excitement the course starts & finishes at a pub, the Hook & Parrot. They have been known to present a bottle of something to the runner who is first to complete the initial loop.
My pb so far this year - Bideford 1:33:21 My pw so far this year - Plymouth 1:38:53
Of course this is all half marathon stuff, my best race time was the Teignbridge 10 earlier this year with 68:26, although I was also very pleased with myself after flm.
As I've been injured and trying to build back up for Cardiff marathon I've been unable to race. I do hope though that my leg is strong enough to do a 12 mile road race at he the beginning of August as I've also got a 32 mile off road event to do in the middle of August-although if I decide to do this it will not be at race pace!
After the monsoon weather of late..I would love to see some sunshine but preferably not on the following dates/ times, as the heat is a killer for me to, not sure if it is the heat from the sun I dislike more than the heat rising from the road surface.
So cool and a breeze please and ideally the odd spot of light rain on: Aug 1 Indian Queens 10.30 - 12.30 Sept 12 Seaton 10.30 - 12.30 Oct 3 Cardiff 9 - 12.20
That's good news as I've wasted so many race entries this year due to injury I don't want to enter and find out I can't do it. However, hopefully I'll feel confident enough with my fitness before the day too enter.
What difference does flm make? It makes a great "long slow run" which is how I ran it. Grizzly is one of those events which you don't have to race, although I did give in to temptation over the last couple of miles!
Exactly the temptation is too much when you want to do well. But maybe I'll think of entering and doing it as a long training stamina building run-like my run today!
btw - I may be in luck - as I am committed to doing a Triathlon on 21 August cos I'm a Hayle Runner - and the Tri is in Hayle !! (1000m / 25 mile / 6 mile)
I say I'm in luck - cos the extra cross-training I've started SHOULD improve my fitness !!
but I have done one duathlon - the Ballbuster (8 mile / 24 mile / 8 mile) back in '98
so I know about "losing" your bike in transition !! ha ha
and I haven't swum for about 8 months - which is strange cos I LOVE swimming but get ear trouble - in fact I think swimming might be something I could be good at - whereas I am not really a "natural" runner !!
Good luck then, I think tri's are great fun. I'm the opposite as in swimming is what I'm least talented at (not that I'm talented at any of the disciplines)but do manage to swim a mile slowly. Have only done sprint tri's myself, but hope to do more longer distances in the future.

Come on now 90 mins, I've heard this undulating before! How undulating is it?

Of the races we've both done it is certainly flatter than Plymouth, perhaps comparable to the 2nd (hillier) half of the Teignbridge Ten.
Would love to do a tri at some stage - something for 2005 I think.
Taking my sore shin splints out on an easy 16 miler today, not as prep for Seaton I would add, and looking forward to the Indian Queens this Sunday.
