itching burning legs

I'm just back from wht was supposed to be my usual 12 mile Sunday run without managing more than 2 miles because the skin on my legs and stomach was scarlet, itching and burning. I tried walking until it settle dand running again, but it's still as bad. No new washing powder, no strange food.... What do I do to stop it happening again or to manage it if it does?
Please help!
