there have been a couple of threads started about Bob Brown the ultra endurance athlete as he is at this very moment approaching 1,500 miles and 36 days into his run across America

he is now over 24 hrs ahead after the 36th day

amongst other achievements he has :

run across Australia

holds the record for the fastest cycle from JOG-LE - Out & Back

he has also completed the "Deca Ironman" which is 10 x the Ironman distances - a continuous event which means coping with sleep deprivation as well as almost unthinkable feats of endurance

Thanks to the forumites who alerted me to this - it is a sad reflection of what passes for NEWS that I had not heard about this until a few days ago!!

Please send him your support

Feel free to update this thread from the info from the website as soon as it is available!!!

GO BOB !!! my ULTRA ULTRA HERO!!!

that man is truly barking mad

    but much admiration for him

    Go Bob Go...
  • It's nice to know that care in the community has it's uses. Mental!

    :)
  • ermm how did he manage to get 24hr ahead already?
surely he only broke up last friday....

i pay my taxes... i want answers!
  • So who's up for this next year?
Forget the London Marathon, that's too easy - put your names down now for the formumite team to race across America.
  • He only has half his training schedule up (or I can only find half) Week 14 110miles.

    It's a bit confusing Dodge

On Bob's website - if you go into the America Run and click on Diary - you see today's date

scroll down and click on Prev page - eventually you get back to March (doesn't help having the US way of writing the date!) which is where Wk 14 finished

but it's not in the same tabulated format
  • paskhapaskha ✭✭✭
    sorry - it's Next page - not Prev !!

and it's mixed up with Project questions for his class!
  • Thanks, 140miles was his max weekly mileage:

    Mon 19/04 AM-10 miles PM-10 miles
    Tues 20/04 AM-10 miles PM-10 miles
    Wed 21/04 AM-10 miles PM-10 miles
    Thurs 22/04 AM-10 miles PM-10 miles
    Fri 23/04 AM-10 miles PM-10 miles
    Sat 24/04 AM-20 miles
    Sun 25/04 AM-20 miles

    I like it.

    :)

    mental!
  • the man is a fruit loop

Hippo - you mean you wouldn't secretly want to ????

    !!!!!!!!!!!
  • I was thinking of extending my pool runs from 5.5 to 10, once I'm fit again........and have lost my marbles.

    :)

I shan't mention what I've been considering as an alternate week long run. Even I laugh thinking about thinking about it.

    :)
  • Running across America would be fantastic but why pay $2000 to the organisers? You provide your on support team etc, what is the $2000 for?
  • paskhapaskha ✭✭✭
    $2000 ?? dunno - $28.17 per day

what have you been considering as an alternate week long run ??

    go on tell us Dodge

    I won't laugh
  • 24mile run X 2 but with a walking rest at the 12 mile mark, a longer rest between the end of the second 12 and the start of the third, and another walk rest at 36miles.
  • paskhapaskha ✭✭✭
    GO DODGE !!!

I'm often thinking of "extreme" (obviously a relative term - perhaps I should say "different") ways to train

If that is possible for you - go for it

Last year I wanted to fit in a marathon training run - 5 wks after the 32 mile Dartmoor run & 5 wks before the IoM marathon - so I went round the Launceston Half again (after the race) - it just made sense to do it that way

    what are you aiming for?

  • JOG2LE next September. It will take me a while to get to that mileage (48 miles) but it's the sort of mileage needed to have a feeling for something like JOG2LE. I figure if I can build to 35 miles straight(ish) then 48 broken will be possible. We shall see though as the longest I've run to date was 17miles which felt easy enough. Just need to avoid injury.

    :)
  • no
    my body wont
    and i hate saying that
ive just tested it, and it wont
  • PH, is "hippo" from the hippocratic oath?
  • paskhapaskha ✭✭✭
Dodge - Bob attempted the JG2LE run but something went wrong - and he hasn't tried another one yet

a few years ago I read about a couple who were going to walk round the coast of UK - 5000 miles I think - don't think they did it - yet

will have to read some more

    Hoose-goer

Africa !! it has to be North to South don't you think ??

I have a book written by a guy who did just that - but on a bike in the 60s (goes off searching for book)

I know he writes in the intro that he doesn't think it would be possible now cos of the politics
  • It couldn't have been the distance, 900miles, that stopped him. I guess even the greats have an off day or two.
  • paskhapaskha ✭✭✭
There's a lot to read on the website

I've been copying some bits of - the JOGLE run had to be abandoned after 300 miles cos he got injured - no more details although he said he was on schedule & devastated

    Correction -

Total distance to Stage 38: 1549 miles

btw - It's the race organiser being "quoted" above from the daily report

  • Send him an email he's having a rough time due to having his contract as a teacher not renewed,

whether it is correct or not does not really matter he is running across america so must be quite emotionally fragile at the moment.

go on you know you want to.
