Dunnarunner, yes there is a new start finish to the cornish marathon.General concensus from runners it was no easier. The start is up and down rather than 2miles up.So rather than the long downhill finish you've got a long climb from 24m to 25m.Anyway back to the Duchy hopefully no force 9 gales next year.
Shame, I was also keen on the 20 mile option as FLM prep, but School Runner is doing the Grizzly this year(!) so I will have our boys for the day. Really think I should go & support as well.
I wonder why they run it as two separate events? Surely that just adds to the administrative overhead. Why not run it as a single event, with folks choosing which distance on the day? Just a thought.
Either way, at a tenner for the full or six shekels for the 20-miler, including medal and pasty, it's staggeringly good cheap. We Cornishmen truly do have short arms and deep pockets :-)
I've got myself the entry forms. Like you Muttley, I'd prefer to make up my mind on the day which event I'd be going for. As it's unlikely that either event will sell out fast, I'll be leaving my entry until much nearer the day.
I often train on this route and it can be a little tough as you are running close to the cliffs which gives of a fair bit of wind. Once you turn left off from the coast it then goes up twice.
I know from last year it was windy and that made it a tough race!
A fair bit of wind, JLK? Force 10 gale more like. I had to lean forwards just to remain upright. And that was just standing, let alone running. Still, it's all part of the fun.
As I have been rejected by the FLM (who needs you anyway) quite fancy this one is it a quick-ish course? as this is my 1st marathon and is there anything like sports drinks provided on the way round or do I need to carry gels?

Dunnarunner - if you're only doing the 20 you should only have to run the hill only once, at about 10/11 miles (I think).
Cheers Kessman. I'll go get one.

This one's all downhill isn't it?

hmmmm, could be up for doing the 20 mile option methinks....
and I suppose the next thing you'll tell me is that the 12 buxom, flaxen haired maidens who wipe the sweat from your brow have been cancelled.
C'mon Fraggle, you know you want to!
Was going to do Lochaber but there are no medals there.
I'll be there spud
Muttley, i was going to mention how strong though i thought it may put people off!!
Oh well! like you said it adds to the fun!
They switched from crap t-shirts to medals this year, which the runners appriciate and have something to show for their efforts.
Besides its difficult to wear a medal down to the pub, most people i know enter races just so they can have a t-shirt!
I guess you you dont?!
Is the route of the mara scenic?
Its not that slow a course though i doubt you would get a PB on it if you were going for one!
