Everyone clibs with a different style and some people look as if they are pushing a big gear if they are on a big hill - the camera can flatten out the course

I think you need to do some work out the saddle occasionally to use all muscle groups effectively & hills/bigger gears allow for this. The roadies were using similar tactics occasionally.
