Just back from a swimble with two of my sprogs and we all did lane swimming. Just us three in the fast.....yes, I said fast lane. My kids make me brave I think, plus there were two rather elderly plodders in the medium.
800m done, with me and the eldest doing drills. I timed my 400m correctly this time and did it in 8.50 compared to my 10.30 a couple of months ago so I am very chuffed with that.
Thanks Soupy.....I still feel slow but put some oomph in today and the faster I go, the less over rotating of the head was happening....I think. I'm sure you will cope with the 1000m and look forward to hearing how you do.
Good luck Schmunks with that massive swim of yours.....
On Wednesday I did 50 metres followed by a 25 second rest and then another 50 metres. I figured that 25 seconds recovery wasn't going to do much for me so I tried to get rid of it completely last night and I was ok.
Another thing I have tried in the past is to try 100 metres with a pull buoy to see if my upper body strength was good enough to get me through it, that was ok but my legs gave way at the end from gripping the pull buoy too much.
When you have managed 100m once, you shoul dhave the confidence to keep doing it!
Schmunkee, I'm hoping to get to 200m in the not too distant future, I'm not going to push too hard at the moment as I only have 9 days until my first triathlon
I had a session with the coach today who was pleased with my progress with FC technique, apart from the occasional left arm stroke straying off. It's weird how the right arm is absolutely fine and I don't even have to think about it, but I really have to focus on stopping the left arm wandering out. I've been prescribed one-armed drills on each side and next week I'll aim to do 100M without stopping which will mean in theory I can attend tri club coaching sessions if I can book into them before they become full. Slow progress. Coach says doing length after length, eg 15 non-stop, will soon be in my grasp but I can't envisage it at the moment.
It's fairly normal to have one arm better than the other, even my super-duper swimmer hubby tends to cross the centre line with his left arm. I have a weaker catch and pull with my left arm, hence I tend to stray to the right especially in open water swims. Can't tell you how many times I've hit the right-side lane line with my hand or arm.
No swimming for me today. Thats a whole week gone with no swimming. I'd forgot it was cycle training so I went there instead which I have to admit was great. But I've had an email from triclub cos I asked which session would be best for me and they said on Wednesday they have a lane just working on stroke technique that would suit me most to begin with. So Wednesday it is then, I can't wait now. Thats cycle training and swim training sorted all in one day.
I popped down to the pool today for a quick 20 lengths and not only was my lifeguard friend on duty (the one that got IN the water with me to teach me for an hour 6 weeks ago) but the lovely lady who taught my kids to swim years ago was doing a toddler session and she stayed on to give me a lesson!
Had me doing catch up drills, which nearly killed me! BUT my reach is improving and she said I'm doing really well for someone who's only been at this a month! I was chuffed to bits and felt MILES more confident in the water!
And can now do 100m! Next step - FIVE lengths!
Cycle training fills me with fear now. I am going to take the bike off the turbo and go OUTSIDE!
First OW wetsuit swim of the year tomorrow! Well, we do only have a bit more than a month to the first League race of the season, Mainz swim and run - 3km in the Rhine river for me and double that for LJS!
I am back from my 2.5k swimathon. I am exhausted. I am weak. I feel sick. I am emotional. Therefore I am off to bed and will post further details tomorrow
Thanks Guys. Aware I need to go into further detail, but want to chat over it with my Mentor first as he has been really supportive and I would like him to be the first to hear it (hence why no clues on FB either). As soon as him and I have spoken, I will be back
PS It ain't gonna be anything shocking so no need to hold your breathe

Off to the pool after work tonight.
I nearly managed 100 metres non stop yesterday (I just needed a 25 second rest after 50) so I'm going to try and get that break shorter tonight.
Wow Saffers, thats a great improvement in a short space of time. Well done.
I've got 1000m on my plan for tomorrow. I've realised that my 2 big open water swims are getting closer.

I did it!
I managed 100 metres non stop for the first ever time. Not just once either - 4 times and 3 lots of 50 metres as well. All unaided
Well done DD.
Good luck Schmunkee
Fantastic DD! I tried that last night. I didn't make it. Got to about 3 and a half lengths and then I panic.
Weird..... I know I can do this. This is in my head.
Sorry I missed your birthday Soupy! Hope it was a great day!
LB Go for it.

Even so.......
I'm getting excited about 4 lengths and you're knocking out 3K in a wetsuit in the Rhine!
(((((Schmunkee))))) Well done! Looking forward to hearing about it.
Well done Schmunkee and looking forward to hearing how it went tomorrow....you go rest that weary body!
Good luck with the OW swim UIW......mammoth distance
