Clevedon Boxing Day Races

Any info. on the Clevedon Boxing Day Races(4 miles) this year? There is nothing as yet on the Clevedon AC Website re. this event.Anyone know if the event is on this year or of any other Boxing Day races in the Avon/Gloucs area?
I have recently joined Team RealRunner. Are any other forumites out there members ?

  • Hello Pin
I'm hoping to join in on Boxing Day. The race is on, coz there were some entry forms available at the Viccy Park race in Bath recently but by the time I thought about it they'd been picked up and taken away again.

With luck there'll be some available at my running club so I'll have a look on Tuesday evening and if there are I'll post the details on here.

Member of City of Bath AC and the Unofficial Forum Running Club (therefore not of Team RealRunner).

    Nite . .
  • I'm hoping to do this one and judging from last years info it looks as though you can enter on the day. Likewise I'll see if anyone at our running club has any more info.
  • I want to enter this one. Any idea what time is starts! Did it years ago when I lived in Clevedon and you could certainly enter on the day then.
  • I'll be there! Form has been filled, £5 paid!

Good course! Nice big, bumpy hill, cool sea air! Lovely!!!
  • Entry normally available on the day btw
  • Starts at 11am I think!
  • Jon - where did you get your entry form from? I'd rather enter in advance to make sure I go!
  • I got it early as I ran it last year!

Where are you all from? All local to Clevedon?
  • I'm in Nottinghamshire now! Used to live in Clevedon about 12 years ago - my mother in law is still there.
  • And re-boing . . .

Might be quite a collection of forumites by the look of things . . .

I'm reasonably local, living in central Bristol, so won't have to get up too early to get there in time for kick off.

Haven't run Clevedon since 1990. Doubt if I'll get under 25 minutes again!! In fact I'll be lucky to get under 30, with all that Christmas pud rollin' around inside me tum!!
  • Dear Team Forumites,
Seems I am the only sad member of Team Never mind, can I join the Unofficial Team forumites?
Thanks for all the info. re. Clevedon races.Meant to do it last year but illness got in the way. Will definitely run this year, health and xmas pudding permitting.Looking forward to some bracing sea air and a big hill!
Very impressed with sub-25 mins Rich,I was hoping for a modest 28,but if the hill is that big.....However,I am having my rotten tooth extracted on Monday(Youch),so by December 26th I will be ZOOMING, cos I'm sure that nasty old tooth has been slowing me down recently.
See you at Clevedon forumites.Going to suss out a few big hills here in the bracing sea air of Penarth!
    Pin(rotten tooth)
  • I ran it last year, but the time is nothing to shout home about! I have got soooo much faster since then, so here's hoping for a 26ish minuter!
  • Keyworth Gal

    Small-ish world.

Born, brought up in Radcliffe on Trent lived in Clevedon until about 16 years ago, trained for my first marathon round there but don't remember ever getting up the hill - went fro the flat bit out to Nailsea etc.

Shan't be there to run with you all but hope you enjoy it, it holds fond memories.
  • It starts at the seafront heads towards Nailsea, turns left up the bumpy bit to the comprehensive school, left again up the hill. Up and over and back to the start you go!
  • The Vampires step sister live there and she has mentioned it in the past so I'll see if she'll feed us and book it up!!
  • The hill's quite a big one as I remember. Did the race once back in 1996 and was running in a group from 4th-10th until the hill, when it all splintered!

Good fun course though and faster than it looks. Ian Gillespie ran 18 mins something the year I did it, which is fantastically quick whichever way you look at it. Mind you, the following summer he ran an 3.39 1500m and a 13.18 5000m....
  • He got the course record in 1997 with I think his ex wife grabbing the ladies record!
  • Hi guys - I picked up an entry form for this tonight.

I've scanned it in and dropped it into a Word document so if you'd like a copy e-mail me and I'll reply with the form attached.

Not sure how well it'll print but it should be fine. If not I'll revert to plan B.
  • Cheers richk - I've e-mailed you for a form. Look forward to seeing all you forumites on the day but don't think I'll be breaking the 30 min mark, but then again who knows?
  • Ha! Mine was yellow!
  • clevedon races are on 26/12/02 at "salthouse fields" , senior race starts at 11 am & is a 4 miler
Bitton road runners will there !
  • Keyworth Gal - tried to send you the entry form as requested but it bounced back at me.

The message told me that your in tray is full and there's no room - see if you can empty it, let me know and I'll have another bash at it . . .
  • How do I get details and an application form and how far is it
  • jo - the main race is 4 miles at 11 am and there's a 3k young athletes race as well at 10.15. The 4 miler costs £4.00 for Club and AAA members and £5.00 for unaffiliated runners.
The start and finish are at the Salthouse Fields in Clevedon. There are no changing facilities.
I found an entry form last night, I've scanned it in and put it in a word document. If you e-mail me I'll e-mail the form back to you.
  • Rich,Thanks for all your efforts.Unfortunately I am having no success with your attachment for the entry form, but I've e-mailed you my postal address. No panic yet but when you have time, would really appreciate a form. The race sounds great and it is motivating me to do some serious training!
I'm off to find a big, bumpy hill to get in some practice forumites!See you all at Clevedon
  • Pin - sorry the form isn't working - did you also have problems Guestie?

I'll pop one in the post tomorrow Pin. Must remember to keep a copy for myself!

I've added the race to the list of races on the URWFRC web site ( - so get on there guys and add your names, numbers when you get them and estimated times.

    G'luck with the training.
  • Hi guys,Thanks for the entry form Rich.It looks like we could have a huge collection of forumites at Clevedon.Really looking forward to it now.
One thing to remember about hills, what goes up must come down !Keep training,
Pin(out looking for big, bumpy hills Jon)
  • When you see the hill you'll know what I mean!

    See you then!
  • Sorry richk, it wouldn't print, but I'm a bit thick when it comes to anything to do with computers!
