Yep, very cool. I'd like to know how efficient your running style was before too. I imagine it would be a nightmare with my pronation, or maybe not. I can spy a few seconds saved here in transition!
Thanks for the replies. My times are slowly going down after about a year of barefoot running. It is like re-learning how to run. I believe that a barefoot run or 2 a week can help strengthen the muscles and bones that would never strengthen if one wore shoes. The ball/heel technique will make any runner faster in time.
Thank you Pantman. Aqua shoes are a good alternative in my opinion when you can't go barefoot. I have heard of others wearing dance shoes (ballet) but they wear out pretty quickly. I hope to continue to train 90% outside this winter. The temps I can deal with, but snow and ice can be treacherous. I was also considering moccasins with a flexible leather sole that can conform to one's foot. Just a couple of ideas. Good luck in your future barefoot endeavors!
Rick, do you run b/foot on tarmac/road? How long does it take for the foot to adapt to the abrasion? You should try the Teva Protons - they are thinner on the sole than moccasins... When it is cold I use mine with seal skinz socks - waterproof!
I will check out the protons. I will most likely, however, head indoors on the treadmill if I can't run barefoot outside.
Yes, I run on all types of surfaces. If you look at some of my weekly mileage logs on my website I note the types of surfaces I daily run on. Somedays it is wood chip trail, other days asphalt or concrete. I would suggest to newbies starting off on a soccer field or golf course (on a rainy day when there are no golfers!).

I have run up to 7.5M barefoot and remain convinced of the benefits. Trouble is, it's almost winter here now...
How much of the benefits of barefoot do you think are lost wearing thin surf shoes (Teva Protons) and socks? That is my best option in winter...

No pics of your feet though, Rick. Are they as pretty as mine?

Pics of my feet are on that page. Then you can tell me if your toes are as GORGEOUS as mine! (Actually, you sound like a doll!)
Barefoot Rick
I am indeed, a doll.
From the ankles down.
