That's very true. 7 miles in the snow on Monday night was not fun. However am relying on this one for FLM training! How is everyone's training going by the way? All up to 50 miles yet?
im using this race for the same reason have been going on the treadmill last couple of weeks as im a wimp when it comes to the cold however im about to get the running shoes on and brave the cold today running about 30 miles a week
I see it as a way of making you mentally tough. It's the only way to get through an hour and a half of biting cold snow/wind/rain flying in your face! At least it's sunny today so get the old buff on and hit the roads. First marathon?
im running london for scope as one of my kids has CP will be wearing a very fetching womble running vest hoping the atmosphere will help on the day Hubby is running Paris marathon for the first time and then walking next to me whilist i run at london??
I am fortunate as I have an excellent support network of running friends - some with the club, others outside that circle. so nearly always have people to run with and support. I detest running on my own so this is vital for me, particularly at this time of year when the weather is terrible.
Are you finding the motivation hard because you are having to go out in the dark on your own? Is there not a club or others you could go with?
Yes my first marathon too. 50 miles this week but am not doing cross training. No time or energy left! Apart from skiing last week!
Always difficult to find people to run with as no one I know is at the same level. Some too slow others too fast. I tend to train in very specific cardio zones.
Am looking forward to being able to run with friends again whilst I decide what to train for after Paris.
Not really a club runner, again due to the very specific nature of my training programme. Am thinking of joining a local club later this year as they all belong to the same gym...
I enjoy runing in the dark in the early morning or if I'm in the park. Helps if you can't see too far into the distance. Feels faster too.
Have to say that I do enjoy running with others. Tends to be more during races though.
just got back in ran for 40 minutes outside have to run round 4 kids husband whos away with the army most of the time Im a member of stragglers however struggle to get there as hubby on exercise for 3 weeks and 4 kids 2 4 6 and 11 so do most of my running alone im just having a bad time i guess we all have them mines just lasting a bit longer than usual hoping reading half will pick me up at the weekend
Jane - Yes I'm doing Reading too although allow loads of time as it's a traffic nightmare so I'm told. It must be hard running with four kids to look after! Good for you, sounds like you're doing really well.
I doubt it having a really tough time with the running have no motivation every run is a chore and im not enjoying it like i was before still plodding on hoping to raise my spirits with reading or you never know having you lot taking the p--s as always may help
Jane - we'll have none of that talk thank you (or I'll tell coach Doyle). you're doing brilliantly and getting so close to FLM (& the cake at Finchley). Not long to go now before the big day, so stick with it

Don't envy you Martini. Tried doing mile intervals on the treadmill. Horrendous.
And hope UR right re.Alpha dist. Me 'M'.
Still haven't heard anything about this but they've taken my money no problem.
running about 30 miles a week
Running about 40 miles, doing circuits and cross training on the bike.
Jane,
Provided it's not icy the cold's not a problem just need to get moving (and wear the right clothes).
Running Paris as my first marathon, but plan to come down and watch London.
What words of encouragement (or abuse), would you like? Will even swear if you look too comfortable.

Jane: good luck in Reading. Friends of mine are running that one. Given it a miss to focus on endurance this weekend.
Really looking forward to the recovery after Paris. I recon lots of vodka and cocktails should help.
Myself, Carpet, Go Martini and JaneE2's husband are all running it. There's also a forum for Pre and Post race get togethers if you're interested.
