Two suggestions for next year. 1.Do a spreadsheet allowing marshalls to count number of laps whilst recording times etc 2. Put the momentos at the finish line.
Matt - the spreadsheet is a good idea. It would need extra timekeepers to fill it in. The two of us that were there were doing it in the gaps between runners, but unfortunately that meant that we didn't know who had done what 'til after they had passed.
Just need a simple grid. Runner's numbers down the left hand side. 6 boxes to the right. Each time a number comes past wright the time in the next box. When all boxes are full then they've finished. I probably should have been counting the laps too, and looked at the course map, but after nearly 30 miles I forgot how many times I'd done that loop.
Worst part was the long stretch running into the wind. Started to feel a bit cold on the last couple of laps there.
Thanks K2, I'll pay any postage costs, Oldbury was a long way to drive, and a long run when I got there.
And I have to agree with Shades, anyone wearing just a vest yesterday deserves a medal (or a dish). Personally I opted for the warmer side of freezing attire and running into that wind on the way back I was bloomin' glad.
Hi Deadbeat, I see you're from Dorset. I lived in Poole and Blandford for 10 years each. Have you ever run round Poole Harbour? I always fancied it, but never quite got round to do it...
Well done peeps for finishing such a long race. 5 laps of a course, gosh, mentally that must have been so hard.
I came on here to read Hippo's report and I have such respect for her. I hope the anger helped you complete the race. However, it shouldn't have been necessary for you to have to get in that state at all. One has enough self pressure without other pressures being forced upon one. Well done on sticking it out also for 2 min pb at the marathon point.
Shades I have lost my copy of the directory somewhere and mad as it sounds I am now thinking about doing Tipton. I am happy to buy another one but could someone let me have details of Tipton as I don't want to miss it now I've decided
I did find laps much better than I thought-but unlike Matt i did count my laps!
WWN-I'm sure the extra 3 miles did me good, even if they were the most horrendously demoralising ones I've ever done. Must have strengthened me pshycologically:)
hello thanks for all the kind words Im sure ill be feeling more pleased than annoyed soon I have contemplated sending an E mail to the organisers but there would only be any point if i were going to do this again Which Im not
Now then i believe there are some LDWA events in january that welcome walkers

I got my momento at the finish line, it's lovely
The marshalls actually asked me if I was doing another lap when I finished my fifth, it made me laugh.
Glad to hear the momentos were nice, perhaps someone could send me a photo so I can pretend. Or does anyone know where I could get mine from?
At my speed I might not catch it, but I'll give it a go...

If you didn't get your finisher's memento or you left anything behind, please will you send me an email.
Thanks!
It'll be easier than trawling through the thread.
WWN - your bag, etc, should be on its way soon.

Funny that.

Shades - These running directories sound ok. Were can I get one.
Hippo - Well done you.
Matt - Sorry to hear about the extra 3 miles.
Can anyone give me a link to Tipton 12.
This thread refuses to die...
Haven't got a link to Tipton 12. Going to look in 'the book' tonight.
