I remember standing on Birdcage Walk waiting for the runners in the 2002 FLM, and not really believing the R5 commentary until PR came into view, alone and with nobody else in sight.
The hairs stood up on the back of my neck then and it was similar when watching the BBC website just now.
What a shame that R5 internet coverage is blocked outside the UK today because ManU vs ManC is ppv around the world.
That was the best possible result all round for her. Had it been another procession people would have been saying `yeah she can do it when there's not as much competition or in her conditions'.
Today she showed she's not only a winner, but can guts it out for a full 26 miles neck and neck eyeballs out.
Top race, top performance - the one she's had to work hardest for - you could tell Athens was still in her legs near the end.
just watched Paula run one of the most gutsy marathons I`ve ever seen, well done Paula,we never lost faith in you, this was`nt just a run it was a fantastic raceonce again well done.
Peeps, don't forget Susan Chepkemei, give her some credit, she really gave Paula a run for her £275k appearance fee, great racing from both athletes So much for the happy ending ...
I don't think Chepdemei was her only competition in the race, she was just the one better prepared on the day and able to take control of as much of the race as Paula. But the others could well have been a threat too!
I'd say Paula had more competition in this marathon than any of her previous ones where she won by a huge margin!
Best two and a half hours on TV this weekend. Well done Paula, showing the world what you are made off. Especially with the Athens headlines still echoing around the press.
Well done to Chepdemei as well, hope she's not to disappointed after such a spirited run. No shame in second (esp. to our Paula).
Best women's marathon race ever to watch. Paula showed great guts to hang in there and not let Susan get away from her on any of the surges she tried. From a pure race standpoint, probably the toughest of her wins as she's never had to fight like that right to the end. Congrats to both women.

Great come back by Paula, but two Olympic golds trumps it IMO. I'd give 'em both one if it was up to me )
And someone should buy Brendan Foster a thesaurus.

Only 1:45 mins to the highlights show!
Paulatastic
“How many new threads will this spawn or will people be able to restrict to posting in the threads that are already here? I somehow doubt it.”
WHO CARES…………..
Thinking of starting a Bucks Paula victory celebration thread, oh and a separate one for our Flitwick contingency.

Bloat
I think 2012 is a bit of a long shot, but then Paris and New York can be hot and humid in August too esp NY.

Anyone know how the Austrailian Benita J got on?

It was a top field, and one by one Paula dropped them till there was just one left.
Brilliant run, though sometimes I think we don't deserve her.
Really moving performance
Perhaps not, the olympic marathon this year was something else.
Really glad for her that she won, but no, I was not anywhere near tears at teh end! :-)
