mmm rice pudding.. I wonder if we shouldn't send an advance party with one of those roll up ladders for the ravine? I remember contemplating it for what seemed like 5 minutes before taking the plunge.
walking poles helped with the ravine and you could use them to fend off rabid sheep
A nice man helped haul me over/through Jugger Beck at the bottom of the ravine - he would have to be positioned in the same spot for any future attempts
Board bridge over beck at Jugger should improve the crossing;provided it doesn't get washed away again in the floods. All this about maps! From experience people only use them at the finish to see where they should have gone and not for route finding. Rice pudding. If you want to reconsider Hippo, we'll lay on a bowl of cornflakes or something else instead just for you. As I remember you were supposed to be on call last year prior to the event; and that didn't stop you. Also stop talking about failure. Your attempt was far from a failure considering all the circumstances.
Well, it turns out that we're not actually running the race. My non-running friends didn't know the race existed and were horrified at the thought of doing it in 12 hours!
What we're actually doing is setting the 'hares' off at midnight on the 2nd July (the week before the race), whilst us 'hounds' catch 8 hours sleep. Then off we go the next morning in hot pursuit, with the aim of us all finishing within the 24 hours.
It should be a good challenge. Us hounds are all marathon runners of similar abilities, whilst the hares do a fair bit of walking and covered some of the ground on a coast-to-coast hike last year.
So I won't be seeing any of you there, but I will report back on condtions to help your race preparations!

I was going to offer to hide drinks and snacks for the follwoing week, but of course you'll have feed stations.
That's another one of the 'rules' of the challenge - the walkers get support, whereas we have to carry all our own food and drink.
