Thats it. Mrs RB has been told about (and agreed to) both gatherings. She has even allowed me to stay on drinking after she takes the weans back to the hotel! What have I done to deserve this I ask myself?
Rach - any suggestions for good "proper French" restaurants that are child friendly, preferably in the Ecole Militaire or des Invalides areas? But any suggestions would be gratefully received. Cheers.
Can't think of any names off hand RB. You'll be spoilt for choice on those roads running alongside the Champs de Mars from Ecole Militaire though. I've often eaten out round there. I always have Ems with me too - no need to search out a particularly child friendly place. I'll have a word with the guys at work on Monday and see if we can come up with some restaurant names for you. I might even wander over that way myself on Sunday afternoon for a recce!
Perhaps I should try out a few park benches round that way for Bern while I'm at it!!
Has anyone got a link to a decent map of the Paris subway?! I was trying to find how to get from the Eurostar to my hotel and I can't fathom it out at all...! I'm staying at the Hotel Cambronne on Boulevard de Grenelle. Apparently the nearest subway station is Cambronne.
Anyone else staying there? Any kind offers of assistance? How far is this from the start/finish area and from the social night??
From Gare du Nord, take line 4 direction Porte d'Orleans. Change at Montparnasse to line 6 directon Charles de Gaulle. The journey should take about 25 minutes in all. It's a 10 minute journey into Charles de Gaulle on line 6 for the pasta party and the race itself.
For the Frog & Rosbif on Sunday night, if you're not taking taxis by then(!), take line 6 direction Nation and change at Montparnasse. Then line 4 and get off at Etienne Marcel.
Just spent a fab day out at Trocadero, Tour Eiffel and the Champs de Mars. Took Emma for lunch at a Brasserie terrasse on the Boulevard de Suffren which runs parallel with the Champs de Mars. There are plenty of restaurants on that road and you're right next to the grassy area that runs between the Tour and Ecole Militaire if the kids need to let off steam. Ems had a great time there!
If you want to go up market and splash out a bit I thoroughly recommend the Café de l'Homme behind the Musée de l'Homme up at Trocadero. The view is stunning down to Ecole Militaire with loads of mad skaters doing tricks alongside the fountains.
You've chosen a very nice part of the city to stay!
Ducati Man - try www.rapt.fr for all public transport stuff in Paris. Really good site!
Rach - thanks for for the recce. I'm SO jealous that you can do that sort of thing any day you want. I can't wait. How old is Emma? Our girls are Helen(almost 5(going on 15!!)) and Maggie (almost 3). And Andrew (almost 6). There could be a small co-operative in the badge making dept!!!
Emma's 6 and three quarters(very important that bit!). She'll be along for the pasta party and supporting on the day but I'm going to have a bit of Mummy time on Sunday night I think!
And yes, we're really very lucky. It's a gorgeous place!
I was thinking of adding a Friday list to the Saturday and Sunday list - ie of people interested in hooking up for the expo on Friday. As a local can you advise where may be an appropriate place to meet near the expo and then I will start the list?
Also, I am staying at Concorde Lafayette - is this in close proximity to expo? Thanks for your help.
Carpet there are several café/brasseries opposite the expo. Chez Clement springs to mind as that's where I used to go with the girls when we had stuff on at P de V. It's easy enough to get to from Porte Maillot. Either get a pc bus which links up all the portes or take the metro line 6 from Charles de Gaulle to Pasteur then line 12 direction Mairie d'Issy to P de V.

Despite an unexpected PB today in the London (Silverstone) Half Marathon, I'll almost certainly just run the Milton Keynes Half Marathon next Sunday.
Taking a 'rain check' on the Paris Marathon. A step too far methinks on limited training.
However, really looking forward to a Paris mini-break with my wife.
Good luck to one and all.

So, a Brit gets a couple of nights in Paris, the most romantic city in Europe.
What do they do? No contest. Spend it with a load of other Brits!

Have you got an adddress or web site for the Frog & Rosbif please?
Here you are Dave

It is going to be a great time and I am really excited by the prospect of it now.
Hope I think the same afterwards!!!

Perhaps it's time to book a hotel mate???
Thanks Rach. About 2 min walk from our hotel on rue Valadon. Ideal! Much appreciated.
