I ran this last year & quite enjoyed it, (2:11) despite having to make an awkward pit-stop in a hotel (there were several elderly folk moving in slo-mo, ofcourse I waited politely! ps. thanks again hotel!!)
This year I hope to have done DMV marathon, so 7 days on I'm usually ready for a faster run (in 2003 I managed 2:03 at Plymouth Half a week after DMV, I'd managed 10 miles in 91 mins, but fell off the pace in the last 3 miles) For me, doing a 10K or 10 miles a week after a marathon can mean a PB! it really is an individual thing - and obviously depends a lot on how you've run the marathon
Hi Trin - I haven't posted on the DD thread yet how excellent yours & Rich's reports & photos etc are - it's brilliant to see it all on the home page - give it up for the Discovery!! yeah! (I especially appreciated the funny bit done by RW saying "and, er, litter picking" you see they don't really understand, DD is special, it makes you feel special and it can lead to er, what may seem odd behaviour! well, in a "race") I've got some photos, but they've been printed badly (there is an excellent one of you & Rich with the crystal trophy) so am going to (hopefully gratis) get them redone - have you done Torbay before? has anyone suggested a meeting place yet?
Thanks paskha...yes, I did Torbay a couple of years ago and was 4th in my age group by 20 measly seconds! I don't think I'll get that close this year tho
Hey guys, I am really looking forward to it providing that the weather is ok! Going for a real challenge of 1:35 which will knowck 6 minutes off my PB for HM been training hard so should be able to! My race number is 912 GOOD lUck everyone!!
AC - my bad language is usually reserved for when I'm running in races. Some brat stepped out in front of me during a 5 mile race and I swore at him, in fact I may be responsible for the remainder of his childhood being somewhat disturbed.
I'm not doing 2B either (and probably never will again).
im something of a new comer to this distance and after watching the great western run in exeter, am really looking forward to the event. only hope its not as hot on the day!
well I didn't finish...hey ho, got to around the 6 mile mark and my hamstring went on me so managed to hobble back to the green.
Yes I was second from last at that point, but if the leg hadn't have gone I would have finished come hell or high water.
However it has taught me a number of things
1) better preperation...but then the same could be said for us all. 2) Half Marathons just arn't the right distance for me, I'll stick with the 5k and 10k distances in future. 3) I did far better than I thought I would in the first place so that in itself was an achievement for me.
It's just one of those things...perhaps in a few years with a few 10k and 10 miles runs under my belt I may be better able to deal with a half marathon.
Just one of those things...live and learn
I do know I will have no problem with next weeks 5k race for life though

AS for your-good -self, we wish you well and good luck, so sorry to hear that Half marathon is not your distance,
It just happens that the 13.1 is our favourite distance
We've done about 82 together
Today was our 144 th run
Shades,
Did'nt spot you
Were you hiding in the shade ??
Just one of those things...live and learn
I do know I will have no problem with next weeks 5k race for life though

But today was good,
I really enjoyed Elvis
and the crowds
I'll be going back next year
Thing is you see, there's that many people that talk to us and know us , we only know a few, or should i say,
There's only a few i can put a name to a face,
Face wise , well i know hundreds and hundreds
But thanks for today
Looking now to Mansfield, High Wycombe, and NSPCC,
Leaving Dartford this time,
Phillip's in respite, so i'm taking the wife away for a weekend's break
