Great race that i thoroughly enjoyed, however i had one small gripe that i wondered if i could ask for fellow runners opinion on.
I was chasing after another runner who was wearing a club vest, so i know who he was running for, as we approached the end, instead of turning left into the finishing straight he carried on under the marker tape thing, and then ran parrellel to the finishing straight.
I was somewhat confused by this, and assumed he had just missed the turn. However he was running without a number, and so, i presume now, had deliberately made the decision knowing he could duck out at the end and still run the race.
Admittedly he didn't recive the souvenir, but he was happy to take the water at the end and on the course and use the showers afterwards. However i assume that he didn't bother to pay to enter the race.
Only in one place could i say that i got near to him, and could claim i was slowed down by him, but in fact i was probably dragged along to a faster time. However to me this misses the point.
the race was accepting late entries on the day, it was being run to race money. The runner in question was running in a club vest, i had run in his clubs event only a few weeks before and was happy to pay the money.
I'm inclined to write to the club he runs for to complain about this.
Does anyone else have any opinions on this, am i being too picky, it was a great race, staged in a briliiant setting, and it was nice to have it on a sturday night when the park was still full and non-runners could appreciate what our sport is all about. however to me this left a cloud over the day.
How would he feel about someone sneaking into a cinema when he'd just paid his money to watch a film, or if someone snuck into a concert or football match that he'd paid half a week's wages to watch?
Tis not on. If he was desperate to do the run, he could have done it after/before/on another day.
Was it me Brian ;-) My times are getting worse so it could well be me doing that shortly!! (Unless of course it's a 'medal' event. Couldn't miss out on one of those no matter what!!) ;-)
There was a couple of others who did this, not because they didn't want to pay the money but they refused to accept entries 10 or so minutes before race. So good for them considering some people travelled over a hour, then trying to find registration point.
Thanks to the marshals and all the organisation that went into the event, really enjoyed it, though the muddy hill and sandy lane were tough sections and turned my legs to jelly. Hope to be back for the stagger for more jelly legged action.
Well done all. Glad people enjoyed the race. Tried to say hello to as many of you as poss, but it was a bit of a nightmare marshalling on Racecourse Lane, so sorry if I ignored you. I didn't notice any runners without numbers so can't really comment on that. PH-You're starting to work your way up the field now:) There are a few fast ones who do the midweeks, but there are also plenty of slower ones too. Very informal and friendly events and you should try Stourport on Wednesday. I'll be there watching.
Shaw-Think I saw you fly past. Not sure when results are available. I'll try and find out. I'm sure they'll go on www.srclub.co.uk or www.dk10k.co.uk as soon as they've been done. Haven't run for a few weeks, bad calf. Will be watching and looking after clubmates 7 year old :-O
Reef-Unaffiliated runners are welcome.
I wasn't allowed to enter Stourport last year, but I did only turn up 1 minute before the start:)
Hope your calf gets better. I will keep my eyes on dk site. I came flying past on the way back as I was worried you would stop me and I was trying to catch a team mate. One of the worst runs in a long time. I suppose I better stop burning the candle at both ends.
Sad as I may be, I just created a excel macro to do a quick cross comparison between 2004 & 2005 and times are 59 seconds slower (using comparison between 55 repeat runners). For interest sake the average time for these 55 runners in 2004 was 49 minutes 11 seconds and 50 minutes 9 seconds in 2005.
Oh good dossa, at least I'm not the only one getting slower. Mind you, if Nibbs and I are 2 of those 55 repeat runners and this thing you did works out a 'mean average' then we probably single handedly swayed those results ;-)

youll have to do 14 min miles
I am dead
i am also dead, this last fortnight has took its toll on me.
fast then
none of the races round here have 12 min milers in them
How far?
They do tend to be very fast.
They are 10k and 8k races. The first one which was at hagley the other week was 10k and followed most of tonights course.
I will have a look
But im not fast-especially when its off road

john
i completely agree with you!
Report him.

Or just paid his money like the rest of you.
I was taking photo's but didn't see anyone without a number.
Have a look on www.dk10k.co.uk and see if he's on one of 160 photo's.
I have known a runner disgusted with his time in the past rip his no. off and gone off in a huff.
Great event again, see you all next year :-)

SP-Noticed you were only a few seconds ahead of the 2nd AF runner.
