Seriously considering this one, any want to tell me more about it ?? A fairly local race for me and sounds like a challenge, unlikely to be a PB race I would imagine ???????
It was indeed incredibly hot last year. Its very challenging Tinribs! Lots of hills. The route is just lovely though and I'm considering having another bash this year...Its not one for PBs but its a grand day out!
This is on my list of definites to do this summer... it is a fantastic run (not too sure about trying to race it due to those hills!), and there is a bar for beers after!!!
Felt crap after this race last year - had to lie down in the shade of an ambulance for a while. My own fault really - no breakfast and got dehydrated. Will endeavour to do better this year.
even with your nightmare gavo I think you finished about 20 minutes before I crawled across the finish line.
I remember hearing everyone cheering and I thought they were clapping me over the finish...I then realised I was so slow they were handing out the medals to the winners!
oh dear...maybe if I can get back ahead of the medal ceremony this year!
I remember the beer. Real ale I seem to remember. There were also mixed showers, although disappointingly most the women were too modest/sensible to use them. Except for my coach, who seemed to stay in there a long time. It was quite a tough run. I was about 15 minutes slower than I'd usually be. Trying not to slide down the hills on your arse was a big problem towards the end. I turned down going to a friend's party last year to do this. I don't think he's forgiven me.
Spans, Dillo, Smitch please ensure that you get yourself nice and sweaty for this event, and don't you dare think about leaving the race venue minging!!
Thanks Multi for starting the tread. Any comments on any aspects of the race gratefully received. For those not in the know about the event it's a monster 1/2 marathon trail race over lovely country side with great views . Usually very hot but planning for extra water stations for mid pack runners and slower . Loads of ups and downs (and some hils are steep ones too !). No chance of a p.b. just enjoy the route . Expect something like + 20% on your road half marathon time . Excellent atmosphere over the last two years thanks to the runners and marshals. Don't forget there is the 6 mile route for those not up for the 21km route. See all you trail lovers there! Tom Frost, Race Director, Milland Valley Trail Race.
I'll be doing it again. Ran it twice (2002+3) last time managed a half mile wrong turn (so don't blindly tailgate someone else). Can vouch for the mixed showers (lady Reading Roadrunner showed no signs of modesty last time) and bar is excellent. Haven't mailed the form yet, but believe you can enter on the day?
Yes , entries are available on the day but preferable to enter before hand (we get an extra £2 out of you and there could be queing). E-mail entries excepted . See entry form . Looks like it's going to be a hot one as usual. Tom Frost, Race Director.
if anyone is going from north London by car, would they be able to give me a lift?? I'll pay petrol and buy you lunch. Would be most grateful as my local Tube is (currently) still out because of the bombings.
Can someone advise me, is this race as hard as it sounds? Are the hills hard? I've only ever done 3x10K's and 1x7miler, but have completed 20K on the treadmill, once. Should i try my luck?
Yep , Steve. It a hard course , plenty , plenty hills and usually hot . I went round it a few weeks back and was knackered . As a guess equivelent to 15 miles on a flat road course. You could enter the 6 mile option? Regards, Tom Frost, Race Director.

Will do it again if possible.
But might try to get to the 'flight of steps' quicker to avoid queue.

I was so overheated last year I had to go straight home, lie down and put an ice pack on my forehead for the rest of the evening!

And no, Multi, I will not be partaking in the mixed-shower-fest.
Looking for a lift as public tranport is not suitable.
Please drop me an e mail.
Birdypie, hope your knee feels better soon!

With your comment about the equivelent to a 15m flat, I think I'll take your advice.
Thanks
