Impossible is Nothing

I find Vaseline essential in a number of areas when I run longer distances - and it is great.

The downside is that my running vests have developed big round marks over my nipples - is there a special way of cleaning out Vaseline from vests, or do I need to send the wife on a washing properly refresher course?!

You could try using Bodyglide - not as messy as vas but more effective, imho

Bodyglide is available from tri shops.

Try Vanish tablets (throw in the washing machine drum at the start)

You could TRY sending Mrs ET on the washing properly course....but I guess you'd find you had little time for running while you dug yourself out of trouble :-)

Vaseline is petroleum based so washing doesn't get it out. Try ironing the vest on kitchen towel - the vaseline should loosen as it heats up and then run into the towel (so have the inside of the vest facing the towel).

tape your nips up - zinc oxide tape, elastoplast or similar are most peeps choices - no vas needed then........

But I suppose once you've ripped off the tape a few times the hairs will be gone - ouch!

Shouldn't wash technical stuff greater than 30degrees using handwash and without conditioner.
What does it matter if your tops have marks on them antway?

I've been using Vaseline but am switching to micropore tape for long runs - here's a question - vertical strips, horizontal strips or X shapes on the nips ??!

those Nipguards have been around for a while......there's also a female version called Petals or something for ladeez who want to go topless under clothes but not have the chapel hat peg look.......

Nipguards look expensive, found them for about £7.50 for a packet, but I'm guessing it might be worth it just for the marathon and the 20M+ runs in all weathers.

I agree with virgil, Micropore tape every time. Just use enough to cover your nipple (1cm square)and not the surrounding skin and it will stay on for as long as you want it to because nipples have no sweat glands. Also cos nipples aren't hairy it doesn't hurt when you take it off. I found if I used an X it eventually rolled up then fell off. (Thats the tape you understand - not anything else:0)

Here ya go - from the Persil careline for getting rid of Vaseline :

Oil stains should be treated with a proprietary grease solvent such as Dabitoff or Beaucare, both of which can be purchased from most chemists and hardware stores. Apply the solution to a cotton wool pad and place against the stain on the underside of the fabric. Use a clean pad of cotton wool to blot up the grease from the surface of the fabric, then rinse thoroughly and wash the article at the recommended temperature, using the quantity of Persil recommended for heavy soiling.

Hey guys - thanks for all your advice (I've been away on holiday in Cape Town don't you know).

Very hairy chest but little bits of micropore could be the way forward.

Cheers Cougie - I like to be the clean bright sort of runner rather than the grungy stinky sort of runner. So I'll tell Mrs ET how to do the business(!!).
