  • Very interested in doing the Half, i have never done a race abroad before but this sounds great.

Any advice on how much the race is, where to stay, flights etc.

  • here you go:
    www.amsterdammarathon.nl/home/index.php

As for flights and accomodation, just check out BA or KLM, acomodation - there are loads of places depending on your requirements, top hotels are fully booked, but hostels and B & B's should be ok.
  • Thanks for that info.

I am still a bit lost as i dont know Amsterdam at all.

Can anyone recommend a hotel/B&B close by which is reasonably priced.

  • 3rd time i've tried to get this messageon here!
Right then, Amsterdam is like spiders web, you can't really get lost, everyone speaks English, best to get somewhere near Vondel Park or in Museum Quarter as that's probably area closest to stadium.
    Try this out www.in-amsterdam.co.uk
Note that many B & B don't have en-suite rooms, so if that's important make sure you check!
  • Tequila - Thanks for that info, I am thinking of staying for 3 nights but the best price i have so far is 284.00 for myself, wife and baby.

Seems a bit pricey but if thats the going rate so be it.
  • Gary - that price is very reasonable for 3 nights for all of you, and there is a neurological conference the same weekend so many hotels etc are fully booked. It's a wonderful city - well we love it! Very chilled and relaxed, masses to see and do, not just the well known red light district and brown cafes. Though this area has to be seen in daytime just for the laughs! Thre's a brilliant guide book I'll try to remember the name and post message here tomorrow - only have PC at work!!
  • Back again! Book i can recommend is by Dorling kindersley - Eyewitness Travel Guide - Amsterdam.
I can highly recommend you visit the church in the attic museum. Not a museum as you would expect, but a church was built across the attic of two adjoining houses and is quite remarkable. Righ in heart of red light district.
Anyway that's my tip for the day!!
    Have fun!
  • All hotels are not already booked ...try Easyjet website / hotels. There are 4 pages of hotels to choose from 2** to 5*****

    or www.needahotel.com
    or www.totalstay.com
    or www.expedia.co.uk

Me and my buddy booked less than 2 months before and got a good hotel 3*** inc breakfast near entrance to Vondel Park and a stones throw from Arun Irish pub ...if I can remember the name I'll post it. It was a good location to be and there are a selection of similar hotels in that area
  • EEyin - I would be interested in the name of it.

  • Sorry to mislead - obviously not ALL hotels are booked, i should not have said it so emphatically, only went by the fact my folks had trouble getting somewhere decent.

    You could try following:

    good luck!

  • running cazrunning caz ✭✭✭
SS - we're going out Sat morn (a very early flight like 6:15 or something) and then coming back Mon evening. Prue knows exact details. We are currantly undergoing accomodation details, just waiting for a few defo answers so we can organise rooms (twins, single, double etc etc). We'll keep you posted. E-mail Prue or I through our profiles on here and we'll copy you into all Amsterdam correspondance.

Prue - So we have you, me, Juicer, nibbs, SS and Muddy all defos going together Sat - Mon (need 2 nights) and then Des who needs 1 night. Mmmm, best get the ball rolling. What did you narrow it down to in the end with regards to the accom. Know you and Julie were doing a good job of researching!?!?!
  • Gary Stevens 2 ...it was the park hotel I stayed at. you could see the Arun pub from the hotel window. 150 yards away ....good place for post race meet. Here was the huge forumite list from last year and where they stayed in some instances
