Sorry Shades. I am a recreational runner and I didn't enjoy the Bideford 10K in torrential rain a rew weeks before. In the end the pulling power of a warm duvet and a warm husband was too great.
LTS - it wasn't torrential rain, neither was it windy, a lot of runners attributed their PB's to the weather. Dartmoor Vale 10k then? Was hot last year!
the point is that for this course the official measurement is based on *not* using the pavements at critical points.
The official measurer's report in those circumstances includes marshalling arrangements where the marshalls have the ability to disqualify runners etc. The actual marshalls there were well-meaning cadets etc who would have no idea of the course measurer's shortest possible route.
Exmouth Harriers haven't followed the course measurement instructions, hence the issue...
I stand corrected if you have read the course measurement report; I know that these do include the issue of use RHS of road on right hand bends, etc. To be fair to the Harriers, the brief did say "keep left" & there were cones to stop corner cutting at a couple of junctions. On 2nd lap Police lady directed me through the cones at one junction!
Sure I more than made up for my shortcut overtaking several groups of runners running 2 and 3 abreast. Don't think the Jones Counter will have been taken on such diversions...
I've been running for just over a year and I've completed 2 RFLs, 5 10Ks, a 10 mile and a half marathon - I think it's about time I joined a club, then I could go to races with a group and it would be less tempting to return to bed!
LTS - and would save you some money in race fees. Affiliated runners pay £2 less than unaffiliated (though some races had their entry forms printed early and still have £1).
Blimey - how easy it is to get attention. My local club is in North Devon and I know they meet on Tuesdays - tonight's the night then! No more wimping out of rainy race meets.
North Devon Road Runners....but I didn't make it. By the time I got home from work the kids were demanding a BBQ etc etc....more guilt. But I did go for a glorious run for an hour about 9PM.
