Hi all, Portaloo, good luck with the training, what mara will you be doing ?
I'm not following a formal mara training plan, but doing my own thing based on principles from various sources. Have now reached 40+ miles a week and plan to increase this to 50-60 miles eventually.
Was talking to Apps at my club last night, he's thinking of doing Comrades again in 06
So pleased that there are a few other mad fools looking to run the comrades in 2006 - will be running my second marathon in Amsterdam in October (only started running in October 2004)and am somewhat petrified at the training that I need to do for the Comrades.
I know it's really far too early to run this distance (I will have been running for just over 18 months by June 2006) but I can't really back out.
Clive, i ran my first comrades 11 months after i started running, so i wouldnt stress to much! just get an ultra or 2 under your belt and you should be fine!
Excellent - I need examples like you to convince my wife that I am not totally insane.....she is not happy.....thinks I am going to be crippled for life!
How did you train from nothing to 56 miles in 11 months?
Tinribs - I will be doing a local marathon,Cape Vaal in Vereeniging or Johnson Crane in Benoni. That wont mean much to you though as you are not in South Africa. I also have a 32K race planned for November.
Clive - I only started running more than 10K in January this year. You will be able to do it,just get the miles going. It will be my first Comrades and my first marathon in February. I try to learn as much as possible from the experts.
Portaloo, Cape Gate vaal is seriously flat!! thas was my first marathon! not bad 2 lapper!
Clive, cant really tell you, feels like ages ago, i just put my mind to it, i ran my first marathon early in the year of comrades, ended up running 2 standard and 2 ultra's before! however i could have doene alot more km's! Just remember that comrades is mostly in your head, so get that right and you should be ok! ask Gobi, without a strong mind your finished! he finished with a serious injury , but he was strong! remember, you are going to hurt!
I did the Cape Gate Vaal HM earlier this year, very flat indeed. Decided on this marathon as an easy Comrades qualifier. That done I will probably do another two marathons and two ultra's before Comrades. Johnson Crane, then Loskop and Om die Dam. I have to decide on a third marathon though, any suggestions?
Portaloo, Loskop and Om die dam are good options, have done both twice, Om die dam is the tougher one, extreme weather, either hot as hell or pouring rain are my experiences! I havnt decided what races im running yet, but 2 oceans is definately on the cards! probably the pick and pay marathon, will see what else next year! just still hoping to do Mccarthy VW this year!
Me neither , but i earn rand!! thats the problem!! you sure you dont have someone you REALLY want to visit here, and the marathons are an excuse!!! hahahahha
