  • Well done on finishing Daisy. You're right about the scenery, running along with the hills slightly shrouded in mist gave them an almost unreal and ghostly feel I thought. The finish did seem a bit chaotic at one point and it's a shame they ran out of T shirts but otherwise I found it to be well organised, which I suppose it should be after 21 years.
  • Hi all

Ran Alloa yesterday in 1:43:12. Was well chuffed & didn't find the hill too bad!! What a lovely course nd well organised event, although there was a bottle-neck at the finish line. Well done everyone else.
  • To all who did Alloa yesterday.. well done and hope you had a good day..

Funny thing tho, from reading the Alloa thread before the race yesterday, a big thing was made of this hill at mile 12... it's only now, you're all saying... och, it wasnae that bad.......... funny how perceptions change(!) and I look forward to the cycle repeating itself next year!!!!

  • Thanks EEyin.. but they said I would have one posted out ...
Now what's next ?? Dunfermline or EK .. anyone got info on either ??
Oh and I'll do a lot more long runs between now & then !!!
  • Did the EK last year very well organised and relatively flat 'cept for all the underpasses you have to negotiate. Not so much to see in this 'Roundabout City' route mostly along coned off dual carriage ways. Lots to do at the althletics track for the non running partners and kids. . Would do it again if it didn't clash with the Embra Marathon.
  • Daisy Duke

Try dunfermlinehalf.co.uk - might have a go at this one, never been to Dunfermline before! EK was OK(!), but as EEyin said not very pretty course.
  • Anybody out there who can comment on Edinburgh-North Berwich 22M? Sounds very good but I am afraid that it might be very windy. Anybody done it?
    Thanks
  • Hiya all ... just going to....
  • BOING ..
sorry .. nothing interesting to say ...
  • I was sent the results of Alloa as a word Document yesterday. Very humbling to do a PB and still see 4-5 pages of people faster than myself. Anybody want them I can forward..... iain.rankin@baesystems.com

  • Cheers EEyin

Got the results..... I wasn't even listed! I know I definately ran it cos I've got the sore foot to prove it!!! Never mind, like you said it was a good day. Whats everyone doing this weekend ( racewise I mean)!
  • Glad you asked MrsMac......Sat - Glasgow Airport to Schipol then 25 minute train to Den Haag Holland for the Pier City Pier 1/2 Marathon at 2.30pm then Heineken with 2 of my colleagues, shopping - Dutch Roses for Mothers Day Fags for my pals and red wine for taking home before heading back to Schipol KLM lounge with my Flying Dutchman Platinum Elite lounge pass. Sore head Sunday coinciding with rest day.
  • Think I'll be dieting after eating all these rasberry ruffles.. washed down with a few fine red T's.
Have no race before the FLM.. gosh it is so close .. almost exciting...
  • Although I'm not doing it, is anybody doing the Glen 10 in Fort William this weekend? It sounds interesting, but is it an annual thing as I've never heard of it. If it is, then what is it like? Would it be worth pencilling for next year etc?

Good luck to those doing a race this weekend...

    Cheers
  • Any fellow scottish runners travelling down to London for FLM on Saturday from Glasgow
  • Yes Ellie,
fly from Glasgow to Heathrow, probably at some ridiculous time in the morning, but as it is not marked on the calander (my life) I have no idea what time etc ... need a new PA .....
  • am travelling from Edin... Good luck!!
  • Ive a Ryanair ticket Prestwick to Stanstead I bought for the FLM ....down on Sat and Back Sunday. I was rejected and am now off to Rotterdam instead. The Ticket cost £28 return and is free to any runner that wants it/can make good use of it. I think for a small sum you can change the name.

New specialist Running Store opens in Edinburgh.
Footworks at Snowlines is a new specialist running and outdoor store in the already well established winter sports shop which has now clearly established a firm footing in the city and online. www.snowlines.co.uk/

The staff at Footworks are all trained by Foot-Logic and Phil Oren fit Systems. They are specialist in the diagnosis and remedies of foot problems such as overpronation, supination and all aspects of the lower leg. 25 years of fitting ski boots and hiking shoes combined with the knowledge of an overpronating distance runner give Footworks the confidence to fit their customers into the correct shoes. The shop boasts video gait analysis in store and a programme of events aimed at both the competitive and non competitive runner who wishes to maintain a level of fitness and live the lifestyle.
Edinburgh has many miles of country style trails and quiet roads which enables us to market twice per week FREE Fun Run sessions with a large variety of abilities catered for. Beginners, runners and regular runners will be catered for in individual groups allowing each to perform at their level.

From the 26th April 2003 and every weekend therafter, Footworks at Snowlines will be organising a Sat & Sun 9.30am 2-4hrs Mountain Bike tour in the Pentland hills which overlook Edinburgh (20 mins from the city centre boundary on no roads). Every Monday & Thursday starting Mon 28th April, Footworks will be organising a 20-40 mins FREE Fun Run including stretching warm up and warm down (a further 15-30 mins) Both disciplines will have 3 levels and no-one will be made to feel left out. We understand the need for most people to build up their fitness in small and regular sessions. Both men and women will be encouraged to perform at their level.
    There are multiple benefits to this scheme mainly health and fitness related but also in educating people to use bikes and their feet as part of a daily routine;
    1. Helps the environment
    2. Reduces heart disease.
    3. Hopefully reduces peoples visits to their health centres.
    4. Improves quality of life. Makes you feel better from inside and out!
    5. Impresses a health culture into people assisting them to incorporate this into their lifestyle.
As part of the overall scheme people will be encouraged to take advantage of FREE “video gait analysis” in the Footworks section of Snowlines Edinburgh store. The scheme is attracting sponsorship from many major suppliers with an encouraging gift from Foot-Logic Mountain Sports (suppliers of Superfeet insoles and Smartwool) of FREE Smartwool RBX specialist running socks worth £10.99 to everyone who turns up for their first time registration. We are currently seeking the endorsement of Lothian Health Board for the project.
Our main objective is to put as many people outdoors as possible. Show them how to incorporate a daily exercise routine into their life and stress the importance of diet and rest within the regime.

I live this lifestyle and believe strongly in it, I hope we can get Edinburgh and Lothians both on its feet and in the saddle!
We actively encourage walking, running, biking and hiking and are continually advising people on equipment ,exercise programmes, diets and routes.

    Live the lifestyle

  • Sounds like a good scheme, unfortunately don't live in or near Edinburgh.

Best of luck and happy running.

Daisy - I just couldn't watch the footie - it's just too painful after the rugby!

The players must have had altitude sickness from being on top of the table. I can think of no other excuse.
  • C'mon guy's we are getting lost here.
OK today went a slow run, only to get a strain in my knee, one week before the FLM... how lucky am I? Turned the house into something that looks like and smells like a chemist, potions, ointments, and of course, frozen peas to the rescue.
    Tapering huh !"!!
  • Did the Tartan Day 10k at Fettercairn today. The world record was broken for both male and female running in a kilt.

Got my PB as well 57.57, feeling very happy and can't believe I broke the 60 mins barrier for the first time.

Good luck to all those doing London next week.
  • NessieNessie ✭✭✭
Jane, well done! Wasn't it just last week you were feeling a bit down because you hadn't managed to break 60 minutes? You seem to be PB-ing all the time now!

Daisy - I think there are lots of people who seem to be getting twinges as they are tapering. Don't worry - I'm sure you'll be fine for Sunday. Are you aiming for a time?

I ran for an hour yesterday - longest since I got the orthotics - and it felt ok. Not great, but ok. I'm probably being a bit ambitious to think I can make a reasonable time for the half on the 4th of May, but I haven't ruled it out yet. I'll be entering on the day, rather than pre-registering, so I don't put pressure on myself to do it. Still, I would love to, as it's a small race and I like to support it.
  • Thanks for your kind words Nessie, the training is going well and the race at Fettercairn was very flat and its was a cool, drizzly day perfect for running.

Which race are you doing on 4th May?

To Daisy, good luck in London.
  • NessieNessie ✭✭✭
Hi Jane. I'm doing the Mid Argyll half marathon in Lochgilphead (Argyll-shire). Well, I'm planning it, but I'll enter on the day just to be on the safe side in case the hip flares up again.

Daisy and Ellie and anyone else heading to the big smoke at the weekend - GOOD LUCK and I wish I was going too. I'll be watching the telly closely to see if I can spot anyone.
