I feel p*ssed after just 1 glass of wine without food nowadays. That is so sad! It used to be about 2, before I started running. I'm hopeless now!

Standard, about 200 or so ml.
Mind you, I don't touch gnat's p*ss. Good quality stuff, 13-14%.

Would I still be within the drink drive limit? Scary.

perhaps you're metabolising the alcohol quicker, or it's getting into your blood stream more quickly, as your body becomes more fuel-efficient?

Dehydration maybe? If you're running in warm weather then you'll be losing quite a lot of fluid - bound to make the alcohol hit harder.

I’m a cheap date nowadays as well. But mainly because I’ve cut down the amount I drink drastically the past year or so. I get tipsy now just thinking about booze.

200 ml would probably be over limit regardless of how you feel. Standard measure (1 unit) is 75 ml I think. Anything over 2 will put you dangerously close.

I'm not drinking (alcohol, that is!)straight after running! This is permanent and I'm only running 4 times a week.

Maybe Biff is right. More fuel efficient eh? Burning fat? Well, who would have thought, with my training, Aardvark! I am much better on the long runs now though ;o)
But it's at a cost to my alcohol capacity!

Nope, 'standard' is 125ml, though you very rarely get that nowadays. More like 175-250ml. I used to be a licensee )

Yes, Have to agree. There is no 'limit' in terms of glasses, pints etc. It depends on how big you are, what you've eaten, when you actually drunk it, when you had your last drink and so on.
The two pints limit was (I believe) a government thing some years ago to try and give people a guide. I think it backfired. The other issue is of course, if you feel drunk after one glass, does it really matter if you are over the limit if you are driving whilst feeling drunk?

I've never heard 2 pints as an advertised min - more like a bloke down the pub type myth. Limit is roughly 3 units which is 1.5 pints of weak beer (3% ish). A pint of export strength could put you near the limit.

3 were 'big nights out', 1 was 'night around campfire' & 1 was 'canoeing & drinking'. Luckily food was involved each time so the hangovers weren't so bad.

Have to make sure I de-tox now for a few days.

Jenny, how old are you? I had the same thing happen and it coincided with increased running. I mentioned it to some medic friends and we decided that its more to do with my age (and womens things - I'm 47) than the running.
If you don't drink so much then you can afford the better stuff - or at least thats what I tell myself!

Bit off topic - I know people generally say 1.5 pints is the limit but in the past I've known a fair few people who were breath tested after far more than that (not me I should add) and all got away with it - though one did get taken away for a blood/urine test. Should add this was about 20 years ago when I used to knock about on a Lambretta and people tended to be a bit more casual about it - it's not that I associate with loads of drink drivers.

I'm exactly the same- one glass of wine or 1 JD and coke and I'm away with the fairies! It's quite frustrating as I used to be able to drink copius amouns of JD. Seroiusly hope its not an age thing as I'm 25, that would mean by 30 I'd only have to sniff the stuff to get p*ssed.

I'm sure it's got nothing to do with age (I'm 36) as I've only been running just over a year. When I was out for about 3 months early on in the year due to a stress fracture, I was fine again, so definitely to do with running!

It's not as if I'm out of practice either, I probably drink 3-4 times a week and it gets no better. This is one thing I can't build endurance in! I don't mind the slow training either ;o) but I can assure you it doesn't work! We've got a cellar load (ok then, garage), as we live in Kent, booze cruises are easy!

I've found this problem as well. 2 beers and im feeling it. I thought it was just the fact i had hardly drank since the new year. Not an age thing either, im a 28 year old male.

Maybe it is since i've taken up running but i can't understand that.

I can't drink anymore either. I cut down a lot and started running much more about 3 yrs ago.

Dr told me that I probably don't have many toxins in my body from all the exercise (and I eat pretty healthily too) so when I do put a toxin in, ie alcohol, my wee body is much more sensitive.

Made sense at the time!

I can't drink so much since I've been diagnosed as having an underactive thyroid. Used to easily be able to drink a bottle of wine in 1 night if I'd wanted, now my max is two glasses.

You can still get done for drink driving if you are under the limit - they just call it being unfit through drink' so if you are showing signs of being unfit through drink there really is no lower limit.......so be careful!

I don't have your problems....takes more than a few to get me drunk but will never drink even one if i've got to drive

dunno if its age or running.
In my younger days I used to drink like a fish, 75-100 units a week was the norm, now I hardly touch the stuff, yet when we go out and I'm on it, I can more than 'handle my own' - recent stag do in the 'dam I was getting to bed at 6am, so maybe it's 'pacing yourself - it is a running thread after all!!!
However some days a couple of pints leaves me wobbly....

The downside to age is that when I was 25, I could get completely wank&&ed and get to bed at 4am, up at 6 and do a full days work, now if I'm any later than 1am, I feel wasted the next day and steer clear for a week........
