Hi Dibs - well done on a fantastic run, even if it didn't quite go to plan. Your placing says a lot more than the time and is a fantastic achievement.
You're right about our races being similar - If you started at the same time we'd have been bumping into each other throughout the race - we were under 10 seconds apart at half way.
I also had a niggle in the 4 weeks up to the marathon - thankfully mine didn't haunt me on the day, but the calf was feeling tight in a 5000m Southern League race yesterday.
HI all....feel a bit flat after FLM ...couple of 1/2 hr easy runs this week and last. Will target a fast September half I reckon as next target then London again next spring....shelved the Amsterdam idea. In the meantime will recover fully over the next few weeks then do North Downs Run in june (great fun)....we must defo have a SUB 2.40 thread for FLM 07 !!
Same here - P&D it is. I'm doing some triathlons over the summer but I don't think this will slow me up too much and is good for variety. Aiming to run a sub 35 min 10k off the bike by the end of the summer, and looking to some 5x2k and 8/10x1k sessions plus some brick sessions to give me the speed endurance and strength to do that. Like euro I'll be looking for a fast half in the autumn - somewhere near 1:15 would be good - and then will be targeting 6 min miling next year at FLM.
For me, it's a case of low volume, high intensity over June and July with a view to getting close to 4 mins for a 1500 and perhaps 15:30 (or hopefully below) for the 5000m.
Then pile on the miles in August, ready for an Autumn HM & my favourite December 10km. The kind of time I'd like is getting into daunting territory, so not going to publish!
I am one of those runner's that seems to stop running after London, I think I respond to goals and without one running seems to become less important to me. As a result, I spend Septemebt onwards trying to get fit and lose weight. I would like to avoid this process next year!
With this in mind, two of us (the other guy loves doing Ultra stuff) signed up for the Marathon of Britain. 175 miles in 6 days... (probably an easy week for JEJ ;o)
My whole aim is to finish MOB, nothing more and it does give me something to Work towards and keeps me training.
Am I worried about it? Yes. However, I do like the idea of simply seeing finishing as a goal.
I'm sure with a bit of speed and providing I am injury free Abingdon could fit in nicely 2 months later!
I'm also feeling pretty flat, just the odd few easy runs here and there (and a crazy day at the track in the southern men's league 6 days after the marathon).
I think I need one more easy week, then will start building up again.
25km ´race´in Berlin done & dusted. t´was just a training run, but from 20 to 25km was a 5km pb (by a minute) with the last km also a pb. Great race, but very hot day & IMO not enough water on the route.
Hi everybody! Restarted to train with some volume this week after FLM. HR is slowly getting back to values I had before marathon...Logged 80km this week. I wonder if anybody knows where to get a training table for sub 2h50-2h45 as on the website there is just sub 3h. I followed runnersworld 3h table in prep for FLM this year, and despite being my first marathon ever (never raced before, but always done some running discontinuily)I finished in 2h53'55 (with negative split...3'38'' difference between first and second half of race). I am planning aother marathon in October, so still plenty of time...
Not sure if people are still about on this thread, but due to injury and Microsoft Challenge, the team I was going to enter for the South Downs relay is down to more or less down to just me.
Would anybody be interested in putting together a competitive team? Legs are between 5.5 and 8 miles, on undulating trails (no specialist shoes necessary).
I am injured and have been since running a half marathon two weeks after London. I have pulled ligaments in my foot which is rather painful. Fortunately, I think I will be ready to start some light training at the end of the week. I'll stick to off road to start with and build up from there, but will have to say no to the South Downs (when is it?).
JEJ, it's a bit far away for me, so sorry I can't help out.
LC, you may find some information in Advanced Marathoning by Pfitzinger & Douglas on training programmes that might suit you. There's plenty of useful info in it.
Can anyone suggest any training books by Lydiard that would be good to read up on?
No worries JEJ, I think I will be back for the weekend. I am working on the theory that 2 weeks off is not really going to harm me (or my fitness?) as I did feel that I was flogging myself through the half (76.40). I should really have gone well under 75 minutes.
I will start thinking about my Ultra in September now, possibly with an October marathon on the back of the mileage.
I always realsie how much running means to me when I'm injured.
Hi to everyone!! I am new to this forum, got a pb 2hr 44min for FLM well chuffed with time but felt the last 3 miles have taken a lot out of my legs and body as they constantly ache. HR also 10-15 bpm faster than pre marathon. Did not run for a week after then started again only to feel a real sharp pain in ball of left foot. Knees and calfs ache a lot since, feel as though i'll never recover, please can anybody offer any advice as I don't want to loose the fitness I have gained.
Marathons seem to hit people differently - some of us (ok, probably just me) were up for racing 4 days later and training for 1500's, but I know of several others who have not returned to regular training as yet.
I'd recommend booking an hour's sports massage asap and keep all running between 65 and 75% max hr, however slow that may be at the moment.
FG - My running has also been feeling a bit flat since FLM, but I have found that swimming/cycling are fine, so I have been doing a lot of them instead. I don't know if this is something that you could try?
I am booked in for another one on Friday. Went for a run last night (off road, vwery slow) and can still feel the pain. It is worse this morning which is not very encouraging...

I know you wanted under 2.40, but as the title of this thread suggests sub 2.45 is another barrier broken and box ticked.
Why not have a look at <2.40 at the KPM or next year's FLM?

Will soon have to up my mileage as I have a rather crazy Ultra Marathon to complete in September.
After that? Well, it would be a shame to waste all of that mileage, so I may have a go at <2.40 at Abingdon.
Any takers?
Mark-Which ultra?
