  • Hi
well okay here goes. I am running my first ever marathon in April in London. Only started running just over a month ago so this will be a huge challenge for me!!!

Am running for AbilityUK This charity helps those with special needs for example learning disabilities or physical disabilities to access leisure activities that they would not normally be able to do! I work with people who have learning diabilities so this is a very valuable charity - we have all our faculties - lets help those who are not quite as fortunate to get something out of leisure activities like we do.....

    Please help....

  • Hi Everyone :-)

I'm raising money to go to Kenya in January to work with Kenyan orphans whose parents have aids. I ran the Great North Run on Sunday, and it went really well! All of the money raised goes directly towards the project itself. Many community development projects, including the one that I will be working on, rely solely on the support of volunteers.

I will be traveling to the region with an organization known as ‘i-to-i’ who specialize in bringing voluntary support to areas where it is needed most (see www.i-to-i.com for details). On the project, I will be supporting the staff that run the centres, teaching the children English and other vocational guidance, as well as providing companionship to them.

I would be extremely grateful if you would consider donating any money towards my project to support Kenyan orphans. Any amount - big or small - will help. Thank you all so much.

To donate, please contact me through my email and I will send you my address. emma.parkes@ntlworld.com Thank you :-)

  • Hi All

I am running the Dublin Marathon on the 31st October to raise money for Trinity Hospice. My Target is £1500 but it is going very slow at present. To get me started I organised a quiz night and raise over £175.00. which is just over 10% still a long way to go!!

Trinity Hospice is a charity based in Clapham Common, London. It helps over 2,000 patients with terminal illesses every year. This year Trinity needs to raise £7.4m, of which only 34% will come from the NHS.

Please dig deep and help me reach my target.

  • Hi
on 21st November2005 I'm taking part in the Everest Marathon in Nepal. This involves 16days trekking to near Everest Base Camp, 5184metres above sea level to Namche Bazaar(3446metres). It follows the trekking route and is run over steep, rough rocky trails shared with strings of porters, yak trains, trekkers and other hazards. There are two very steep ascents although the descents can be just as difficult, being steep and on narrow zigzag paths.
I am raising money for The Everest Marathon Fund and the Alzheimer’s Society,
    please consider sponsoring me at
    http://www.justgiving.com/alisonreynolds
    Thanks
  • On Sunday I'm running the Bristol Half Marathon in aid of the Alzheimer's Society. It's the first time I've ever attempted something like this, and my training has been spurred on by the memory of my Auntie, who died earlier this year (ten days before I sent off my application) and also her two brothers, who also died of this disease.

    I'm raising money for funding.

If you can help support this worthy charity (I know, there are so many), I'd be very grateful.

  • FLM 2006 will be my first ever marathon.

I am running for WELLCHILD - the UK's leading charity for sick children, my reason being that no child should have to suffer illness like the kids this charity helps. It doesn't specialise in any particular illness but has the lovely aim to make all children better.

I only started running in March this year, and have so far done only 1 half marathon in preparation for this - so I need all the support I can get.

  • In 2004 I ran the Triple Marathon (www.triplemarathon.com) for The Rainforest Foundation - taking part in the Thailand, London and New York marathons.

After a year off I am running the London marathon again in 2006 for The Rainforest Foundation. They aren't just an environment charity, their work actively prevents the displacement of rainforest populations, and the poverty that ensues.

Please log onto www.bmycharity.com/challenges/anniegreatwall to sponsor me for this.

I am raising money for Cancer Research UK in celebration of my mum who was diagnosed with breast cancer - but she is now recovered thanks to this fab charity.

So, please sponsor me if you can. If you can't, why not run the Valentine 10k and get sponsored yourself? I can send you Cancer Research UK sponsorship forms and a training plan.

Thank you so much. Annie. x
  • I am running the 2006 London Marathon for the Miscarriage Association.

My wife and I had our first baby in May, after trying for a long time. We were in touch with a number of other couples in the same situation as us, and one day one of these couples lost their baby, about half-way through the pregnancy.

They were devastated, and this affected me really badly. I couldn't even begin to imagine how it must have felt, and I didn't know how I would cope if the same happened to me.

The Miscarriage Association works to provide help, support and counselling to couples who lose a baby during pregnancy. They also work with health professionals to improve the care available to such couples. Voluntary donations provide the bulk of their funding, so please dig deep for this worthwhile cause.

You can sponsor me, and follow my progress, at http://www.justgiving.com/gregw

    Thanks in advance

I am running FLM 2006 for the British Heart Foundation and in memory of my brother Andy who died last month of a heart attack aged just 37.

Andy left behind a wife, daughter, step daughters, close family and friends who all miss him very much and find a massive hole in our lives now that he is no longer with us.

Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) kills over 100,000 people every year in the UK and many millions more around the world. The aim of the British Heart Foundation is to play a leading role in the fight against disease of the heart and circulation so that it is no longer a major cause of disability and premature death.

2 Years ago I was a very likely candidate for a heart attack myself, I had a very poor lifestyle consisting of a poor diet and little or no exercise and as a consequance my weight had ballooned to 20stone which was seriously starting to effect my health.

I changed all that last year and discovering a love of running was one of the major things that contributed to my success.

I went from 20 stone to 12 and half stone and from not being able to run for more than a minute to being able to run for a couple of hours and my current best 10k time (longest race i have done so far) is 43 mins.

I guess most people here will be looking to get sponsorship rather than give it so I dont expect donations but maybe you know some people outside of running who would benefit from reading my story and visiting my website and maybe we can save a life that way even if it doesnt get me any extra sponsorship.

    Thankyou

    Nick

  • I am running flm 2006 for St Joseph's Hospice in Hackney, East London.

This hospice is celebrating its centenary this year and has just opened a new wing on the site of an old wing, demolished about three years ago.

The reason it is so close to my heart is that St Joseph's looked after my dad in the last 5 weeks of his life. The care provided by the hospice movement is also extended to family members and I have made some good friends amongst the staff and volunteers who still work there. Dad has now been gone nearly five years.

Of course I still miss him terribly. He recognised the fact that hospices are in desperate need for cash and was really pleased, when a couple of days before he died, I agreed to do a sponsored walk to raise money. I did it 9 days after he died.

I suppose the fund raising has gone on from there. The hospice always needs money to help keep the services they provide running. They not only nurse people in the hospice, but care for people at home in the final stages of their illness.

It is my tribute to my dad.

  • The Prostate Cancer Charity.

Hi I'm running the 2006 London Marathon for The Prostate Cancer Charity. I decided to raise this money as a close friend was diagnosed with prostate cancer earlier on this year. He is lucky and survived his operation and following treatment and is now hopefully free from cancer.

30,000 men in the UK are diagnosed with Prostate Cancer each year and 10, 000 die of it – that’s ONE MAN EVERY HOUR.

This is the first time I have done a marathon (I'm hoping it's not the last time!) It will be a major personal challenge but I am looking forward to the big day next April.

I have created an on-line sponsorship page at

    http://www.justgiving.com/emmaneachell

Many thanks for reading all this.
I'm doing this for all the men out there!!

  • Hi all,
I was an obese blob with chronic back problems when I took up running in 2004. I was delighted to find that running actually helped my back pain and am therefore delighted to be able to raise funds for 'BackCare' when i run my 1st ever marathon (FLM) next year. This charity does not have the emotive appeal of many, but it does great work in helping reduce the pain and misery caused by bavk pain.

You can sponsor me at www.justgiving.com/Lynsmarathon

    and follow my training on

  • I am running FLM 06 for The Big Issue Foundation. This is the fantastic charity behind The Big Issue newspaper and it helps people affected by homelessness to get control of their lives and to find permanent homes and jobs.

I used to be a management consultant – one of those slick guys in a suit, always on a plane. You know the type? Then I made some career choices that resulted in me losing everything, the flat in Holland Park, the gorgeous girlfriend, etc, etc and very nearly became homeless myself. Things have been improving since I took up running but this showed me that homeless people are not just hopeless cases who will never be able to cope. Many of them have just had a run of very bad luck. I came to the conclusion that the prospect of being homeless was closer than most people think.

To keep track of my own progress in putting my life back together have a look at my blog at
    www.gideonmitchell.blogspot.com

I’d really appreciate your help with a donation of £10 to The Big Issue Foundation. If you do so quickly you could be the first! This charity really does change people’s lives, and they are ordinary people like you and me. Donate through my site here:

    Thanks a million. Gideon
