New York City

I'm off to NYC on 3rd Nov, hubby is doing marathon, and it is my 2nd wedding anniversary and I want to take him somewhere very, very special on Friday 4th Nov.

So can you recommend a good restaurant? Have you been to a good one, read about a good one?

Please help!

  • Hmmm - I know of a good coffee shop - Central Perk is it called ?

A pal told me of a great restaurant in NY - it's way up in a hotel or something so its got great views. Can't remember the name though... Lemme think.
  • Is there a Shere Khan there Wolfy?
  • LOL there is defo no Central Perk Cougs! yes if you can find out that would be lovely.

FF I'm sure if Sim wants a mad ass on the Friday night we'll find a bloody shere khan!!! tee hee!
  • If you want very very special and like steak then go to "Uncle Jacks". You will need a big appetite (and a robust credit card)....

  • Wolfy- you've got mail :)
  • McDonalds!
  • Neat ! I didn't know they had McDonalds over there too !
  • LOL!

I've heard they've got Burger King too... I don't know if that's just hearsay (Not the group) though...
  • Don...you're a wally!

Thanks Moomoo I owe you one chickadee x
  • :)

    You know me!
  • I do sweetie you're mad! Actually I had to have a Maccy D's deli sandwich (the supposedly low fat one) last week whilst in Norwich and it was ok!

  • There is a nice and very exclusive (or at least there was last year) one on the ground floor west side of the Rockefeller centre. Can't remember the name. The food is affordable but you will have to scour the wine list for an affordable bottle of wine. It's over 2 floors and has a mezzanine level. Can't recall the name.

Superb bread and I had the steak.
  • If you want a very very very special resturant you must go to the Aureole.

Very expensive but without a doubt the best food I have tasted anywhere in the world. The chef Charlie Palmer is a bit of celebrity in America and his food is to die for.

Went there for a meal on New years Eve around 2 years ago.
  • The bar at the top of the marriot marquis hotel in Times square is worth a visit just for the views, it revolves so over an hour you get 360 view of manhattan.
  • Thanks everyone! Some good suggestions and some silly ones (Jon or Don whatever you're called this week)!

Can't wait to get there now!
  • Samson I've just spoken to the lovely Diane at RW who also mentioned the revolving bar at the top of the Marriot Hotel in Times Square so I'm defo checking it out!

Cheers Diane, Samson and everybody else but of course silly Jon/Don who at best can only come up with Maccy D's! ;-)
  • Wolfy, went to NY for birthday last year, we went to may resturants, one that stood out was "Ellen's Starlight Diner" in Times Square, it was an old fashioned diner but all the staff were performing artists. They sang show tunes through the meal, and served good old fashioned American food. I know I'll go back there.

    Not posh but fun!
  • Wolfy
    - would definitely recommend the River Cafe in Brooklyn. Great food and beautiful views across the river to Manhattan.
