I did see this one, but as I get the RW from the local newsagent (supporting the local village newsagent and all that) I cant see the details... probably just aswell, it would just be another run to be last in )
I like the course map on the website - particularly impressed that they went to the effort to draw the trees on! Had a look at the photos and the hill at the start looks steep - but then it's only 3.5 miles in total so I'm sure I'll survive.
Can't decide whether to go for the beer race at the moment.
I've just signed up for the beer race! Sounds like such a pleasant change from the usual and just long (and hilly) enough to keep me in check on Christmas day!
My wife has agreed on condition that I DON'T do the beer race: as we're going to the in-laws after for post-xmas lunch.
She thought me being copiously sick might be a bit off-putting for them. Doesn't seem to have considered that me turning up in muddy running gear might be a bit gross too, but there you go.
Did this a few years ago. It was uphill a bit and mainly off road so was a bit muddy and a few roots to look out for and the last bit is about half mile downhill and very fast. As my mum only lives a mile or so away I can do it again b4 xmas dinner.
Still trying to decide whether to do this one, no youngsters to drag me out of bed at some unearthly hour, so could spend more time asleep ) On the other hand Christmas always seems to disappear at the speed of light so getting up earlier would mean I would see more of the day....
ignore me I am just typing out loud ) Portsmouth isn't that far from Haslemere and I have the entry form right here in front of me. Maybe
Didn't know about this! What time is it? Would like to do my club handicap in t'morning, then the haslemere handicap in afternoon. I know a few of the haslemere boys and if all goes well several beers before the afternoon one would be a great handicap!
15!!!!!!!!!!!!! bit of a late starter then bertie ) Frequented the Royal Oak in Whitehill as a youngster, back in the olden days when you could get a half a McEwans for 17 pence!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG Im old! Pretty sure its a 10am start SD, but don't listen to me, I turned up for the RNLI Christmas run at 10.35 all ready for an 11am start. It started at 10am, hence the name change from plodder to plonker!
I signed up for this one on Sunday whilst hungover - they had a stall at the Haslemere Christmas Market and my Mrs made me. Given my state I declined the beer run option.
Hi folks, jut thought i would join in. trying to persuade my husband to run with me so we can be last together! would give the motivation to get of the backside after pigging out for Christmas!!!
just decided I am going to do this one, good reason to get my backside out of bed and get rid of the christmas grub and alcohol..... or maybe a good excuse to start again later in the day )
107 thats my number ) Tried to convince my OH to either enter or marshall but his reply was a very firm NO, with a few expletives thrown in and comments about insane people getting up at stupid o clock to run up hills getting cold and dirty. see you all there )
EP, (like the hat btw) I'm No. 51. Ran up and down the start and finish hill last night. It's not as bad as I thought, the first 50 yards are the steepest part although I believe there's a short hands on knees hill a bit further on. Looking forward to this a lot.
Thanks Diogenes took ages to find a hat that flattered my unique markings ) I'm looking forward to this run/walk/stagger/crawl but I do still have a chest infection so if by any chance there is someone behind me after 200 yards, give me a push please or mention food ) Have a good Christmas, eat drink and be incredibly merry and see you on Boxing day looking tired and rough )
Can I just ask whose idea was it to get up at this stupid hour???? I need sleep, my stomach is way to big to be running with and my alcohol stream hasn't got enough blood in it yet yaaaaaaaaaawn
Oops. Sorry. Those other hills were steeper than I thought. That combined with the pinch points and the single file sections slowed things down a bit. Still it was a fun run wasn't it, not a race. Hated it most of the way around but was already thinking about next year's race in the shower.
Diogenes lets face it, you lied, you lulled us all into a false sense of security to make sure we all turned up ) Those hills were mountains, huge very very long wet muddy stodgy mountains )Having said that I did enjoy it and will definitely do the run next year if I am still in the country. I'm pretty sure I saw McGoohan, but didnt go up and say Hi incase I got a 'who the hell are you and what are you calling me' stare!
Yes, D, there were rather more of the hills than advertised!!! I enjoyed it though. I'm not used to hills OR mud so was pleased I managed to keep running every step. Beer was good - or the few mouthfuls I didn't spill were at any rate!!
I was mainly running behind/in front of the bloke with the fluffy dog. (He carried it the first hundred yards or so!) Though I did see someone with 3 dogs come through later too. I think technicall these people were being assisted!
Comments
It's only all uphill for the the first half of the run, but it's quite a steep one. I run down it regularly but go up a more gentle route.
I believe you can opt in for the beer race where at the drinks station half way round you get a pint of winter warmer type ale.
Can't decide whether to go for the beer race at the moment.
