Spent a bit of time in Le Touquet, and started running last year, but haven't combined the two yet!
As you guys seem to know all, what is the deal with the doctors, and medical certificates stuff. I've done a couple of UK races, but haven't had to do anything with medicals.
yes im having a mare on that as well...last year i faked mine but woudlnt recommend it as if you got stopped that wouldnt be good! jelly-explain please!
they haven't asked for them in the last two years - I had to pin a Froggie to the wall by the lapels who ignored my cert. at registration last time, and tell him just how much time it had taken me to type it up only for him to ignore it - peasant!
There was some talk of a licence as well - do you need the medical certificate to get a licence of some kind, or is it the same thing, just translated?
Katy the licence is only if you belong to a club. You'll have provided the club with a med cert already to get the licence. So, in the absence of a licence race organisers ask for a med cert.
I'd go with the English version if you're making your own though. Babel Fish is utter merde pour such things!!
My boyfriend and I are both planning to run - hopefully 20K, but have just moved house, life has been chaos and running hasn't happened, so maybe 10K, and I think a few others are coming over for the drinking and probably a bit of pointing and laughing as we (hopefully) get to the finish line a slightly peculiar purple colour!
Sounds like there are a lot of you going over though, so no doubt you will run past us at some point! We'll have to all compare notes on 'I'll be wearing...' and see if we can spot each other!
Katy just one thing, make sure you have your date of birth on your certificate, one eagle eyed guy picked this up last year, they're supposed to check the d.o.b against your entry form, it was let through though and yes it was a DIY job.
Laura I'm just pulling your leg in the way that only I can.
The thing with races in France is much like here, in that helpers are roped in at the last minute, they're not necessarily runners so maybe don't even know you're supposed to have a certificate, it just depends who you get. I get a cert from my GP for £15 so I don't bother with a DIY job but other GP's have asked £120 or more and some won't even do it.

In fact I'm admiring your self-restraint (and I don't mean that I think you tie yourself up).

Presumably any medical certificate would need to be in French?!

Didn't especially want to turn up on the weekend only to be made to sit on the sidelines drinking wine and eating brie...
Hold on, that's not such a bad idea...!
