Shades-I am hopeful of a holiday this year, think I read I should be getting the first jab at the end of April, then second before August so plenty of time to get away, all being well.
Nice run after work, finally starting to feel like my fitness is coming back, paces at a nice level for the same heart rate, still a long way to 26 but good progress.
  • RcoutureRcouture ✭✭✭
Shades - Understood. Will try and split things up and see how I get on.

    Ian - Nice progress
  • SHADESSHADES ✭✭✭✭
Ian - they do seem to be doing well with the vaccination programme.   Keep checking the app, I think they change the age criteria on Mondays.

I've got my first jab today 😀

Good news on the training, do you think the shoes are helping you?

6 miles this morning, bright morning but very cold,  'feels like' -3.  🥶  Had a good run and roads are always just a little quieter on Saturdays which is nice.

Have had an update from the leisure centre, from 12th April gym, lane swimming, swimming lessons, family swims, household racket sports (badminton, squash, and table tennis) will return with COVID secure measures in place.  Then exercise classes from 17th May.   All dependent on Covid data of course.

Shades, great news on the jab :D

Ian, great to read you're getting back to fitness now.

TR, it must be frustrating for the RDs.  The 10k I was on about is at a racecourse so has a chance I hope.  The talk of travel probably wouldn't impact that race all that much as I think it's probably mainly local/Devon people who attend it.

RCouture, you're doing well with your train too.  Great news.

14 miles this morning.  Undulating with a couple of steepish hills, and then more or less flat towards the finish.  It was cold out there but HR was under control and I could have carried on if I'd wanted (well, I had no water/food with me, but I mean I wasn't too knackered!).  I may run tomorrow or I may do a longer ride on Zwift, but regardless it's 48 miles for the week so far and I'm happy with that.
  • SHADESSHADES ✭✭✭✭
Big G - that's another good week's training for you.

I've been jabbed, now sitting for 15 minutes before they allow me to drive home.

All very efficient, queuing for 5-10 minutes then asked lots of questions which took 10 times longer than actually getting the jab.

Have had the AZ vaccine  :)
  • Ian5Ian5 ✭✭✭
Shades-I think the shoes have helped, definitely seem easier effort in them, will run in my others later and see how they are, overall though things are looking up.
  • SHADESSHADES ✭✭✭✭
Ian - if you think the shoes are helping then maybe stick with them until you're confident that you're pain/PF free.

I did enjoy my trip out to the vaccination centre, so well organised, even had temporary traffic lights set up for the traffic leaving the centre and needing to turn right.

My car battery benefited too from the trip.
  • RcoutureRcouture ✭✭✭
Shades - That’s great! FYI I had elevated HR (both resting and running) for a few days afterwards which is apparently very common but messed with my MAF.

    Big G - Nice 14 miles

Rest day for me. Was going to go for my long run but busy with jobs at home/minding the girls so will go tomorrow.
  • SHADESSHADES ✭✭✭✭
Ignore what I said about NHS app being updated on a Monday.   Updated today to age 56 and over.  So moving fast.

Rcouture - thanks for the pre warning.   I take my RHR before I get out of bed each morning so will be interesting to see if there's any change.

You'll benefit from a rest day before your long run tomorrow but I don't expect you're actually getting much rest.   ;)
  • Cal JonesCal Jones ✭✭✭
Nice one, Shades. I think it'll take longer in London. I'm not expecting mine any time soon.

This thread moves quickly! After a horrible cold walk yesterday, I was keen to run today. It is still not particularly comfortable - unlike when I have a sore achilles, it doesn't seem to improve as I warm up, but at least it doesn't get any worse either. I did 6 miles and it was a bit quicker than the last run so I've got that going for me at least.
  • SHADESSHADES ✭✭✭✭
Cal - that's a national NHS website so as soon as your age comes up have a look.

    https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/

But the vaccination centres could be too far away to be practical for you.  If so, then you'd have to wait until your GP contacts you which is variable.

Glad you could get out for a run today.   Hopefully your hammy might be less troublesome when the weather warms up a bit.

Shades-Good news on the jab, when they start the 40-49 group at least I'll be near the front of the queue.
I ran in the 1080's again, nice run again after work, debating getting a pair of Nike Invincibles, they are Nikes max cushion shoe and I have the 25% until the end of the month.

Ian - Cal is our Nike expert.   Shame to waste the voucher if that makes them a good deal.

I don't think it'll be long before your age group is eligible for the vaccine.   Who would have thought a year ago that we'd all be so keen to get an injection or two.

6 miles today, so so cold, I couldn't have run any further even if I'd planned to, too cold for my leg muscles.  No aftereffects from the vaccine so far, I don't even have a bruise, which I did have after the flu jab.   RHR OK and running HR was OK too until I witnessed a squirrel getting run over by a car.   He ran in front of a car which hit him and then he rolled several times under the car, then jumped to his feet and dashed back to the pavement just missing the wheels of another car.  The squirrel then stopped near me sat on his hind legs with his mouth open, I think we were both in shock,  😲 he then ran off.   I couldn't get my HR back down after that.
  • Big_GBig_G ✭✭✭
Sounds like that squirrel had a lucky escape, Shades!  Good news on the vaccine not causing any problems with your HR too.

Ian, those shoes do look really good!

Cal, fingers crossed your hammie starts getting better soon.

RCouture, hopefully your run goes well today :)

No running here today, but I did 105k on the bike.  There was an event with roughly 800 riders in, and we had to do 25 laps of the "Volcano Circuit", which is pretty flat.  It took 2hrs45min, but I quite enjoyed it again today.  Just trying to figure out next week's running plan.  Hoping to get to 50-ish miles of running again though, with hopefully a 13-15miler(ish) as well.  I feel I have been sensible as probably in weeks gone by I'd have entered the Torbay Tri 3k event and pushed it too much, but as I'm sitting here typing this I'm feeling good.

On my Strava, there are a lot of Trotters going out doing long runs at the moment (20 miles-ish), I think in prep for DD.  Looking at them, they're ahead of me in their long runs at the moment, but I don't want to overdo it bearing in mind I've had so much time off.  I am feeling good, but I'd prefer to finish a run feeling positive rather than frazzled at this stage.  I do have a rough plan of how to increase the long runs and I'm happy with my plan at this point.
  • SHADESSHADES ✭✭✭✭
Big G - you've done well rebuilding your fitness base coming back from injury.   You're injury free and just about back to 50mpw and finding that comfortable, so ignore what the others are doing right now and just stick to your plans.

I haven't done any long runs either but I did 51 miles this week and as long as the weather warms up, which it should, I'll start to increase the Sunday runs.

I expect you'll be watching/riding the Paris - Nice this week?   I can catch the highlights on ITV 4.   I'm trying to wade through the athletics too, I don't ever remember the European Indoors ever being this good before.   I guess the athletes are hungry for competition this time.
  • Cal, have you considered targeting both MK and Richmond, target MK as your A-race, it training all goes to plan then you have nothing to lose at Richmond or if training doesn't go to plan treat MK as your last long run and race day practice for Richmond?

Shades - I don't know to what extent my leg will heal fully? I'm feeling progress all the time and just need to be patient and reconsider how I view marathon what I can do and get out of them.

Big G - Great your want to achieve the good times, I can't see me running any big events for at least 18 months with my leg, but do want to vary up the events I'm doing.

Ian - glad the 1080's work for you, they are on my list to keep an eye out for, think most race organisers have to act BAU until they hear otherwise but hope MK and other events can go ahead, Autumn is starting to look very cramped.

TR - is the Dorney Lake marathon you referring to ATW? They are still waiting and if they haven't heard by the 12th March they are going to use the reserve date the 25th which suits me a bit more.

Put the GT2000s back on and did 10 miles yesterday and felt comfortable however the run felt tougher than I'd like and with DL just 4 weeks away not feeling too positive but I'm not surprised.  I'm starting to feel events won't get the nod until 12th April, even with that I wonder if they will limit the distance people can travel? Also who knows if they'll start banding the tiers around again, I hope not!

Either a run or a walk later more than anything to get out the house and take a break from Insurance books, another exam on Friday, great times of joy!

Shades, yes, I've been watching a lot of live cycling and I'll be watching Paris-Nice this week.  I watched the UAT Tour, and there were two Belgian races last weekend, which I also watched as they were full of stars.  Yesterday was Strade Bianche, which was fantastic from start to finish.  It was a superb field with TdF winners, classic specialists, cyclocross starts etc, and the top 10 had some huge names in there.  Watching the coverage yesterday though made me just want to visit as the race started and finished in Siena, and it looked stunning.  If the season carries on like this into the grand tours, we're in for a great season.  The top riders (Alaphilippe, van Aert, van der Poel, Pogacar, etc) just seem to want to light up every race that they enter.
  • Big_GBig_G ✭✭✭
Cross post, Robert.  Good luck with the revision!
  • TRTR ✭✭✭
Shades - Dorney is around 80 mile for me, so not too far. Having said that if they move to the reserve date, ill go to Goodwood instead the following day as its 15ish miles. Im just after an early year gfa time, so Goodwoid is fine (unless its 40mph winds again).Good news re the vaccine, my wife has hers a couple of weeks ago and it made her quite poorly again.

Robert - yes ATW, i note the reserve date, but don't understand the choice of date 3 weeks later (same for Goodwood) as the minimise travel is in place until May.

Big G - good progress, fwiw id focus on bringing up the length of an mlr before you worry about doing 20m long runs. You seem to have plenty of training time available to be able to put volume in, so could have a few weeks of 2 x mlr and a long run, or 2 x long run and an mlr neare to your target race.

Ian - I had looked at the invincibles but didn’t bother as reviews said they weren’t the most stable. Sound great otherwise though.

Shades - Great that you’ve no side effects.

Big G - what other races are u down for aside from DD?

Robert - Nice 10 miles and good luck with the studying

20 miles for me along the Thames on the Richmond marathon route. Seems ok to me. Some troublesome bits of the towpath with uneven ground but wouldn’t say it’s more than 10pct of the course. Run itself was lovely, HR inline with MAF at 9:15min/mi and a beautiful day. Even saw a seal flapping about on the shore! Brings up 63m for the week. Definitely a down week next as I’m feeling good so don’t want to overdo it.
  • SHADESSHADES ✭✭✭✭
Robert - well you seem to be doing well despite the setback with your leg.  I'm sure you'll still be able to put on a decent performance at DL.

I'm not surprised DL are thinking of switching to their reserve date.

I notice that on the fairly detailed return to competition that EA have done for Track and Field they've stated 'minimise travel' and it seems they don't actually know what that means.   Their level of incompetence is astounding.  Did they honestly think nobody would ask what that means.

Let's hope we get clear and concise details on road and trail races very soon.

Big G - are all these cycling races usually held at this time or is there just more media coverage due to less events in other sport

Incidentally Tavy 13 are not rescheduling for this year but have transferred all entries to the Tavy 7 in the autumn.

TR - well if DL is too far to travel then surely Goodwood would be OK.

I did read that those that have had Covid often react more to the vaccine.   More antibodies apparently.

I still feel OK but my arm is now slightly tender if I touch it, noticed that a couple of hours ago.
  • Big_GBig_G ✭✭✭
Shades, in my own case, I've never before watched the events I've mentioned, but I've been getting into it more this year.  Usually I just watch the grand tours.  I think these types of races are usually followed by people who love cycling, but it's new for me.  Eurosport usually shows them all, I think.

RCouture, I've nothing else entered before DD at the moment.  I may do a local marathon as a training run if it goes ahead and I can get a place.  I do have a local Half after DD if that goes ahead, but nothing much else at the moment, although I'm keeping an eye out for shorter/local events in the lead up to DD.  Well done on your run - you're doing great!  I did wonder about your marathon and the terrain; I did one on the Thames Path last February and I can imagine that one problem may be pedestrians if the weather is decent.

TR, thanks.  This week I did a 13 and 14-miler and hope to continue that type of training in a standard week.  I do need to get the longer runs in as well though as DD is 32-miles and hilly, but I'm trying to be careful and not up the length of the runs too quickly.
  • SHADESSHADES ✭✭✭✭
Rcouture - xpost, lovely pic of the seal sunbathing, great what we get to see when out running.

Sounds like the terrain was OK, so that leaves all options open to you re the two May marathons.

Another great week's training from you.

Big G - the one day races must be good to watch as I guess much more competitive rather than the strategy of the tours.
  • Ian5Ian5 ✭✭✭
Rcouture- That is a great run, well done. You picked up the pace quite a bit the last 3 miles so that is really promising.
Shades-I think part of EA's problem is the govt advice was stay local with no emphasis on what that means, but they should have sorted it by now.I can't find any options here before DD if I'm not allowed to do MK.
First 50m week in quite while completes today, wasn't sure how I'd feel so went to the park,it's a good place to run,2.3m loop so never too far if you want to stop, but good mental training to keep going when you know you are close to home, got 5.5 loops done, with there and back it was 15 and felt strong throughout.
  • SHADESSHADES ✭✭✭✭
Ian - a good week for you too.

You might have to do Boston the week before DD  ;)

Really we could do with DD moving to later in the summer say late August so hopefully free of all restrictions and a chance to get a marathon or two done first.  I guess there's little chance of that.
  • SHADESSHADES ✭✭✭✭
I had planned to take a rest day today as yesterday evening I developed a headache, never get headaches unless it's a pre cursor that I'm getting ill.   So I'm assuming the headache was due to the vaccine.

But when I woke this morning I felt fine, no headache and RHR nice and low. Arm is sore today, no problem sleeping on it even though I favour that side but is sore when I lift my arm over my head.

I ran an easy 6 miles, didn't want to run any further as it's colder than yesterday, a feels like of -5, 🥶 but there was less wind so wasn't too bad.  Beautiful crescent moon a lovely gold colour.  No suicidal squirrels today thankfully.   :)
  • Big_GBig_G ✭✭✭
Glad you were able to get out today, Shades.

I went out just before 7am and it was cold then too, with frost on the cars and fields.  I was wrapped up (even donning the leggings!) and I had a great run though, heading straight uphill for a mile before undulating down to the sea front along country lanes, up and down Torquay pier, before heading along the coast path to Goodrington, and then up a steep hill (and back down the otherside) close to home.  13 miles all together and it was really enjoyable today.  As I was coming back through town just before 9am it was really busy with kids returning to school, so I need to keep that in mind for other runs in terms of trying to get the timing right!
  • SHADESSHADES ✭✭✭✭
Big G - that's a very good start to your week.

I went out as it was getting light but at Kerswell as I was coming home via Huxnor Road I could see the link road was really busy with traffic and that was before 7 a.m., much busier than usual, teachers and other school staff perhaps getting to work early perhaps.

At least it's getting lighter in the mornings and changing quickly so by the time other areas of lockdown are eased and more folk back at work we'll be able to run earlier to avoid the traffic.

  • Big_GBig_G ✭✭✭
Shades, yes, I'm quite pleased with that run today.  It wasn't the quickest as there were some steep bits but HR was 134 average for the whole run, which is pretty low for me.  It just felt very comfortable today.
  • Ian5Ian5 ✭✭✭
Shades-Windermere is 2 weeks before DD so a possible, depending on restrictions, the minimise travel part ends on the 16th so should be ok then.
Decided to take a rest day today,PF is fine but legs feel a little tired, not used to the longer distances yet
