Am tempted to treat myself to a Navman Sport - was originally looking at the W300 (its for fitness walking) but the R300 would do the same job with an extra feature (max speed)
has anyone got one or tried one or know anyone else who has ?
just wondering whether spending 90quid on what could just be a hi tech pedometre/pacer is worth it
and no i dont want a Garmin!

I bought a Navman R300 in the summer and now wish I hadn't!
As it's placed at the top of the arm, I find it quite difficult checking the display as I'm running along and I haven't found it to be particularly user friendly, unless it's just me being stupid (but I dont think it is, I'm usually quite good with gadgets!)
Also, something I didn't think about in the summer - I start off running with a top on but take it off when I'm warmed up - making it a bit awkward to use during the winter months!
To be honest, since I've bought it, I've only used it 4/5 times.
I'm now trying to find a way of telling my husband that I want to spend yet more money on another one - (I was thinking of a Garmin, you not too keen on them tho??)which he will not be impressed with!!
Hope this helps rather than confuse the issue even more!
i dont want a Garmin because i dont want to spend that much and just want the distance and speed monitor facility so i can use it for upping my pace
I recently bought the Navman R300. Agree with floozee about it not being that user friendly (you really do need to study the instruction manual quite carefully). However, it does just what I wanted it to do. i.e. accurately shows distance run/current speed/average minutes per mile etc. It's great as I can now head off on bridle paths as opposed to having to stick to roads (in order to drive the route and get the mileage). Don't have any probs with wearing it on upper arm. Only real gripe is that it doesn't have a backlight (and most of my running is done in the dark at this time of year).
Mind you I'm interested in the end stats only and most certainly do not look at it as I'm going along - I'm quite able to go smack on my face on a run without squinting at my upper arm!!
Those of my friends who have Garmins initially use them more and use multi functions but in the end we all pretty much end up using them for the same thing - how far and how fast...
that sounds good enough for me
presumably the data is all stored a6 the end of a session to look over ..im interested in av speed and max speed as well as the distance
most of my sessions are in daylight and do tend to be off road so it will be useful
any good deals out there at the moment - they seem to be around the £90 mark every where
I'm not so hung up on mileage that I want to know exact mileages every time I go out.
I do agree however that a backlight would be useful, having just been out in the dark, taking spot checks every few streetlights!!
Or there's Timex SDM watches for £95 on http://www.fitsense.co.uk/T5B501.htm
Or there's always ebay...
Have also just purchased a pink polar hrm...even though the one I have is great, it just isn't pink! Won't tell hubby about that one!
have you still got the R300 in stock?
can you email me with the website address ?
better than a string and map.
Go to the drop down box at the top and select United Kingdom then put in the town that you live in and it will take you straight to the map! It even does elevations and tells you how many calories you have burned!
Thank you!
Now - when do I find time to run????
