RC - I didn't mean I was going to run quickly! I can run slowly - if you want company I don't mind doing 9M, but if you only want your MP3 I understand
Hi folks, my 3rd Rhayader in a row come Saturday, hope its nothing like 2004 which was horrific! Last year managed to get a tan in March, the inncentive to finish was to see the second half of our Grand Slam back in the Lamb and Flag. Good luck to everyone, just pray than the weather is fine, lol.
UM - Fancy bumping in to you. Looks like we were destined to run together after all :-) Really appreciated the company, cheers :-) See you 7:50 with jam sandwiches safely packed away for the journey :-)
RC - Must have been fate! I really appreciated the company too. It would have been a pretty gloomy run otherwise. Strawberry jam is ready for spreading! See you tomorrow.
I'm back again this year, but not tackling the 20 as I'm injured ( so I'm dragging my mum and sister along to do the 5 miles at a run/walk. It's gonna kill me watching all you guys come in from the 20, but i'll be cheering you all on, remembering the agony you'll be going through (or was that just me?)!!
We had a light dusting of snow on the hills overnight. No snow today, other than the odd flurry which isn't settling. The route is clear. It is quite windy, but it's from the East. This means that it will be behind or to the side of you during most of the race (unlike the westerly 2 years ago!) The wind will probably affect you most between the 15-16 mile point and possibly the last hill up to 19 miles. As I write this they are just putting out the 19 mile marker! I will let you know if we get any proper snow, but it's very unlikely and not forcast.
Have just run up the long hill, though mostly off road,on the hillside to the right of it. The bit I did on the road was sheltered from the wind because of the hillside. On the top the wind was mostly behind me. The forecast is for it to be windy tomorrow, and I guess what I'm saying is, don't let that worry you too much as it's more likely to be pushing you along than holding you back - could be good pb potential!
Thanks very much for the updates Jan!! Very useful. I'm drinking loads of water and carbo-loading today. My tummy is churning - excited and scared all at the same time. Really want to better my time from 2003!! Really looking forward to it, adrenalin surging already!!
Matt, I bet it doesn't take as long to get round as it does to get the Milford results. I've put my own results on my website now, can't wait for them.
Hmm, what to wear - always a difficult one. It is pretty exposed, as many of you know, so the wind will be a feature. The forecast put it at 5 degrees today, though it's actually been about 2. It's meant to be slightly warmer tomorrow and as I look out, there's even some blue sky!! My advice from running round here is to wear a lightweight windproof. (unless like Matt, you go at a fast pace.) Towards the end of the race the wind is likely to be against you, so when you're tired and running out of energy, you could get really cold if you've not got wind protection.
Weather permitting I'll be outside my house at 19 miles cheering you on. Have a great race everyone. I'll check the forum about 8pm tonight, if there are any other questions you think I might be able to help with, let me know.
I'm alcohol free and carbo loaded. Have packed a cereal bar and jam sandwiches for pre-race and peanut butter sandwiches, chocolate, flapjack, STRONGBOW and RED WINE for post-race and journey home :-) Am about to pack a variety of clothes so I'll decide what to wear upon arrival.
WA - will text you on the way there tomorrow, hope you're still up for running together. Mark will be joining us too I think. We really have to take it soooo easy for that first 7M and then just easy for the rest. Hope that suits!?!?!? I'll be well happy with 3:05/3:10. Need time on feet as I've done no more than 2:51 so far!!!
I'm sure I'll be on later but good luck all and have a good one :-)
I've jsut had a big bowl of pasta with cheesy bread and two big cakes. I think that should be anough carbs for tomoz. Setting off about 9:45 tomoz. Lets hope the weather is kind to us all tomorrow. Gd luck all.
WA - Have text you to check I have right number in phone hope you got it!?!!?! My legs feel tired :-( Did a hillyish 9M on Thurs night and 4M tonight. Am sure I'm not recovered from Stafford, but what the hell, lets give it a go eh :-) See you tomorrow :-)

Hi Caz, that'll be great. Not run for 6 days because of man-flu and was still a bit rough this morning so slow will be splendid. Look forward to it.
Caz, got it. Have sent one back. Looking forward to tomorrow fool that I am !
I'm very nervous and the wind sounds very off-putting, but what the hell, I'd have to do 20M this weekend anyway!!
Hope you all have a great run and enjoy :-)
Roll on 4:30, when I should have my first pint in my hand :-)
Off shortly, what have I let myself in for ?
