I suspect Hastings is harder? Windsor is genuinely parkland undulating - it's hard for people like me who train on the flat but not for people like XB who train on proper hills
.....erm, it was hard for me, and I live in Wales!!
But I'm going to train better this year (once my left leg stops hurting). My brother lives in Virginia Water, just outside Great Windsor Park. His words to me when I told him that it was reportedly hilly were - hills? what hills there are no hills.
When I arrived at his house the night before and he looked at the map, he said.........'aaaahhhh thathill! Yes - it's a nasty one that!'
May be hard to compare with Hastings, where all the gaining altitude part was in the first 7 or 8 miles, leaving downhills and flat bits to stagger round on tired legs afterwards. Does Windsor keep on throwing them at you til the end? I live in a hilly town surrounded by the South Downs so it's hard not to train on hills, but doesn't mean I like them!
BB's right. The course starts and finishes on the 'long walk'. That's a mile or so of up-hill at the start and then down-hill to finish. The problem is that you can see the finish line well in advance but it doesn't seem to get any closer!
I can't believe this is full already. I spent about an hour giving the hard sell to my non-running friends over the weekend until almost all of them agreed it would be a great goal to train for & maybe start a new running hobby.
I was just about to email them all the useful links like Fetch, the Windsor site, etc but it's full. Now I have to dash all the hopes & dreams I just spent so long building up
Maybe secretly some of my friends will be grateful. I did pick my moment in the pub & alcohol is a great tool for getting people to agree to do things
OK chaps, panic time,as Ixus says the race is sold out. As it currently stands we do not have enough support to run the marquee, so if you're in and you want a fun day add your asterix :-)
I wonder whether peeps who are in haven't yet bothered to find this thread as it is still, comparatively, early. Is it worth putting a thread on the 'general' forum (for instance)? Didn't RW 'plug' the marquee somehow for us last year?

As Sluggie says, it's still early - but mail RW to see if they will plug it again this year, I'm sure they will.
