Mike - For the slower runners, Rabs is incorrect. The smaller marathons are shorter. "WE" do not have to line up as far back as in the larger marathons. Plus, it is easier (less crowded) to try to run the tangent, which is the way that the marathons are measured. For example, at Disney, I probably covered about 27 miles or so. I went somewhere between one quarter and one half mile to line up. AND, I was nearly at the rear. It took about eight minutes for me to reach the start line. Therefore, I gave the elites at least an eight minute head start. Then, I spent the rest of the race trying to make up lost ground. It's discouraging. Well, that's my 'umble opinion...
JJ - Bill Rodgers, a marathoner, use to say that about the middle of the pack runners. He admired them as there was no way that he could run for four or more hours. Tongue in cheek? Maybe....
Mike - No, only we slower guys have further to run. Of course, when I run, I tire and stagger. Therefore, I am ALL over the road. Have a good year! Run well.
good morning and a very happy new year to all maturites. Please dont talk about marathons, Mystic is trying to persuade me to do abingdon again but i think i want to keep the record to just one!! I am already dreading our next race which is 20 miles at the end of feb.
Morning all. Just about to take my old man and his wife to the airport to ship them back to Brighton. They've been with us for two weeks. Easier house guests would be impossible to find.
Good morning all. I've decided not to run until thursday when the children go back to school. This morning we are going for a walk with my sister and her daughters.
