Ooh, I remember a brilliant downhill bit with a left hand bend at the bottom. Its not too far into the run once your outside of the zoo's grounds - somewhere around the 3k mark I think.... This is definitely a run with a challenging first half but quite flat as I remember for the majority of the second so a good one overall if only for the pleasant countryside surroundings. Doubt there'll be any PBs for me - it took me 65 mins last year; don't expect much improvement on that to be honest but if it reduces a tadge I'll be happy!
I remember the first time I ran this event. Just as we were lining up for the start a woman announced over the pa system, that for those not used to running it was a hilly start, 5-6k later we were still climbing, lol.
It is a tough race, do not expect a pb, but at least it's a nice scenic course.
I've got another flatter 10k two weeks later on the 21st - it's around Victoria Country Park in Netley. I think it's a 3 lapper but I know the area pretty well and it should be another nice day out with the family.
Ooh Sam, where did you get the details of the Victoria Country Park run? Was it online here? If so, whats it called - I'm Gosport based so may be available for this one...
Thanks very much - I'll take a peek later and might enter if I've got that weekend free; I've only ever been there for the Bonfire Night displays they had a few years back but would imagine, if nothing else, it would be a nice route.
Right, I'm on for this one as the kiddies wanted to do the fun run. Not sure if I'll be recovered from FLM, but I've always enjoyed it in the past.
It's often been hot, and the openning hill as you leave the grounds of the zoo (at 3k) is (a) steep and (b) sheltered from any wind, so it can be warm!
DON'T turn on to the B2177 at fishers pond, as, between the hours of 9 and 10 (and later) you will join the back of a 1 mile queue to get into the car park.
Instead, use the B3037 from fair oak, and come up the 2177 form the south east - there are very few cars using that direction.
LOL TraceyG. Actually they are at that age (6 and 8) where they are still keen to do stuff, especially if they see parent enjoying himself, and they keep asking about fun runs - they've done Gosport, Stubbington, Eastleigh and others in recent months. They really love the medals - there's a competition going on to see who can get the most, I think!
Diana - It was my first 10k last year and it took me 66mins. Just don't go too fast in the zoo and you will get up the hill. Take a drink with, especially if it is hot, because you don't get one until 5k at the top of the hill. Hope I have not worried you.
Nobody will laugh I assure you. I am not exactly what you would call fit and quick. I have never found anybody mock the times I have done over the past 2 or 3 years since starting running more 'seriously'.

Hi everyone, decided to enter this one mainly as an excuse to spend the rest of the day at the zoo, so if I don't see you at the start I'll see you on the zoo train!

Thanks.

I found the details on this site (it's called "Southampton Running Club 10K" in the events system (http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/events/viewevent.asp?sp=&v=2&EN=30518).
Or you could go direct to the Southampton Running Club website and follow "The Run in the Park 10k" link.

I've never done this one before, so I can't vouch for it's quality. I think I remember seeing some good ratings in the race feedback though.
