I'm a bit anxious about mile 10 as well, but I am not paying a toll to take a look at it.
I am sure that stretches of road with gradients greater that 1:10 are marked on ordnance survey maps. I've been to the library and the road is not marked.
I've been looking at the elevation on the gmap site and according to that, I estimate the gradient must be about 1:8 or a bit steeper.
Mile 3 is interesting as well. According to gmap this one is below sea level.
I've just signed up for this, should be a cracker - I'll just have to remember not to drink too much when I go out the night before.
As far as gradients go, I'm fairly certain that gmap has elevations in feet, so a rise of 200 feet over about 3/4 of a mile is a gradient of about 1:20, so not actually that steep after all.
Good luck to you all. Ran my first Humber Bridge last year in 1hour 47mins(99th). Having done my 15th London a couple of months earlier in 3hrs 22mins (PB) I was aiming for 1hr 35mins as I had done Bath in 1hr 30, Blackpool, Leeds and Liverpool in 1hr 33 and Manchester 10k in 42mins. I was doing all these (1 a month) to celebrate my 50th the previous Dec. As I am not a sun worshipper you can imagine how I felt at 11am when the temp was hitting the 80's!!!!! Did the first half 10k in 45mins.You can work out the time I took to do the return half. Ran most of the last 5/6 miles on my own. I wondered as I crossed back across the Bridgeif I was the only one running because I could not see anyone infront or anyone behind. It was very strange not being able to share my agony with anyone until I saw my wife and kids at the end of the bridge. I have never been so please to stop at the end of a race. Take water with you at the start. You should by now be able to drink as you run. I was asked at the end if I was OK.I will not tell you my answer. However, I did consume vast amounts of the foaming ale and plenty of water that night. I hope you all have a great day.The views are wonderful and as always youwill learn something more about yourself. I certainly will not forget the 2005 run. I'm running the 25th Glasgow Half again (home town although I've lived in Harrogate for 12 years and London 17.) and my 8th Great North Run. Got round London in April in 3hrs 33mins. Same time as my first London in 1989. All the best.
bernard- was born in harrogate or should i say starbeck as thats where the old hospital was , lived on forest lane for many happy years
we did hear the heat killed the race abit last year and a lot off runners had probs making it round ,by the sounds off it you where one off the lucky ones, well done in getting round
just wondering if im doing a wise thing by doing this one lol, but thanks bernard i feel better now ive read your comments!!!!! only kidding its great to hear other peoples experiences, so good luck to you too for this year aswell. not going for a time....... just too survive. did gnr in 2004, injured for all of last year so this will be only my 2nd half ever, best time for a 10k this year is 46.53 and 36.42 for a 5mile so looking forward to this....... ish.
Just got my entry in the post this morning. Have been practicing running up Harland Way, Skidby Hill and Castle Hill for this race, these should put me in good stead for 'Heartbreak Hill'. Off on holiday on wednesday to Slovenia so will have to try get some miles whilst I am there. Good luck to all taking part.
Just checked Metcheck (www.metcheck.com) they do an 8-14 day forecast that is usually fairly accurate. Tempearture around the 16degree c mark with light rain in the morning and heavier rain in the afternoon but little wind.Cloud cover 100%.
we're staying at the quality hotel not far from the start so will be leaving my stuff there. buts it not that expensive to stop so might be an idea for anyone having to travel. give the organisers a shout PH, maybe they missed it off.
Doubt it, my knee's playing up and I've had to ease off the training a bit. Be lucky to crack 2 hours now. Anyway, I'll wait, gotta cheer you over the line.

Is this race multi terrain?
My number is 606.

I admit though it was so so hot last year and lots of people did collapse but as already said it was such a hot day.
It is a good race to do, although I will not be doing it this year as running Edinburgh Marathon next week .
