Has anybody done the Great Barford HM in recent years - if so, what's the route like - on/off road? how about hills? I've never done a HM before, so this may not be a good idea of mine !
Hi Jo, I can't say that I've actually run this race before, but I know the area and there's not too much in the way of hills. Having said that, if it heads north it could be a bit undulating. Give it a go anyway - the way to race up hills is to put no more effort in going up them than going down them, just stick at your threshold.
I've emailed the organisers to ask about the route. If it heads south, I'll probably go for it. If it heads north, it may be more than I'm up to just yet. My idea of a hill is the bridge over the bypass on the Willington to Bedford cycle track!!
It goes out, round a loop and back. I seem to remember the loop is at the top of the hill and if you go round the loop quick enough you get to see the leading man going the other way. Very well organised. It used to be at the end of September, but seems to have crept later in the year.
OOPs. Meant, if you reach the loop slow enough you see the leading man coming off it and heading for the downhill and home. It's all on quiet back roads.
