JJ - That A20 is popular for road bikes. There was some sort of time trial going on there this morning.

Well done Tracey! Another good long run done and dusted. A chap from our club was doing the A20 Pathway too - wonder how he got on?

Congratulations to K2, too. Obviously a challenging course.

TS, impressive mileage for th eweek - about double what I manage on a really good week!

MickC, villa looks lovely, but one can clearly see the rolling hills all about.

    very satisfactory training session, sharkie.

Glad you enjoyed the lunch, Empty. Daughter cooked Thai for me, which was very tasty, with the odd sharp shock by chilli!

7.64 miles for me, over a different route, which took me through some serious mud!
    Lap 1 - 1 miles - 10:51(10:51/m) - 149bpm avge  (max hidden by spikes)
    Lap 2 - 1 miles - 10:42(10:42/m) - 140bpm avge  - 148bpm max
    Lap 3 - 1 miles - 11:43(11:43/m) - 144bpm avge  - 150bpm max - looking for away through the mud!
    Lap 4 - 1 miles - 10:37(10:37/m) - 141bpm avge  - 145bpm max
    Lap 5 - 1 miles - 10:23(10:23/m) - 142bpm avge  - 150bpm max

    Lap 8 - 0.64 miles - 6:54(10:47/m) - 140bpm avge  - 147bpm max

I've also got no time just at the minute to cover everything as my granddaughter is hogging the PC so will just say welcome back Mick and well done K2 and Tracey in today's races - I'm not surprised you're both pretty tired from the sound of it.

For myself, nearly 25 miles this week - a record.

Hope to have more time soon.

Feeling a little tired so a nrd for me today but will be back at it tomorrow.

    Impey,
Wow you seem to be back to your form, well done on the 30 mile week

    Graham,
there is something very special about that first spring/summer run. It was wonderful to run in shorts again with all the trees in blossom, people in the grape vines repairing the fencing and people in the olive groves trimmimg the trees, heavy sigh.

    Pammie,
I am sorry to hear that you have another niggle, you were pushing yourself very hard, time to let your body catch up. I cannot imagine running a marathon on the streets of Venice, everything is concrete and very unfriendly. I found all the steps very hard even over 10k.

    K2,
Well done on your half, your hilly half and I am now an expert on hilly runs.

    Tracey,
17.3 miles??? Well done anyway. Your distance runs always amaze me.

    JJ,
glad to see that you are still training hard.
I rarely drink so plonk doesn't do much for me. My ladies love it so we had to visit all the wine cellars well maybe not all 150 of them. I did find one bottle that you may like but you may not like the price.

I know some of you have been to the Tuscany area but for those who haven't, it truly is a beautiful part of the world with great people, food and wine. The pic below of me and my youngest shows a view from one of the many walled hill top villages.

K2 - Very good half marathon time considering how much training you have been doing.

TS - A nice long run there image

Ceal - Did you enjoy the sunshine today in Hayling Island.  I now have a tan line on my legs. I race in short tights, short sleeve top with club vest on top.

Goodness, I'm not been about for a few days and you have all been very busy.

    Great photos from mickC  image

Well done to Tracey and K2 for yesterday's races.  Impressed to read about tanlines Tracey!! I am not out there long enough but being of the redheaded 'pale and interesting' variety very rarely get tanned anyway although can do 'lobster' well if I am not careful.  Tracey what made you think JJ was checking his own tanlines?  image

As a special mother's day treat yesterday I went for a short walk/run without cass which perhaps made up for the fact that i had missed a couple of days.  Take care all, I will try to pop in again later!

aws I am walk/running so am slower than you.  I am just trying to get out there, so timing but not measuring distance as it would depress me!!!

    Good Morning all,

Well the sunshine has now disappeared, a good job we all made the most of it. I was HOT sitting outside yesterday, out of the wind, my jeans were burning me, so no tan line. But when we went inside for lunch out came the cardigans and jackets as it was cool!

    Empty
yes, yesterday was a great day on the coast. I am pleased to hear that you were tolerated for lunch yesterday!!!

    Tracey
Well done on your strange distance race!! It will stand you in good stead for the 26th April.

    sharkie
you are doing well with your intended weight loss stakes. So baby bear nearly joined the chuck up crowd yesterday! You were working hard that is for sure.

    Pammie
    good run yesterday.

    TS
I have just fallen off my perch reading that yesterdays nice aerobic run brought your total mileage for the week to 64 miles. image

    JJ
It is always satisfying to reach one's training target for the day, especially in sunshine and pleasant surroundings.

    Graham
Well done on your new record mileage for the week.

     Diana
Serious Mud, You can keep it!

    Maggie
It is good to hear you re getting out and about, no matter what the pace or distance.

    MickC
You  sound very invigorated from your holiday in the beautiful region of Tuscany. I have enjoyed the photo's. The spot where your villa was looked so picturesque. Running around that sort of countryside must have been magic to say the least. It looks as if you had pretty good weather too, which is a bonus and you certainly deserved a bit of non snow and minus temps for a while.

I have been in touch with a friend of mine from many many moons ago, via Friends United. She now lives in Ottawa and she moved there a long long time ago. We were at Primary school and Secondary school together. Although not close friends, we were indeed friends. We are having great fun having a trip down memory lane. This has involved old Primary School Photo's, and trying to remember the names of everybody. Impossible, we have found, some faces are so very familar but neither of us can put names to some of them. But we are having fun doing so.

I am off to the Gym very soon, in fact as soon as I have showered, which must be asap. Later I have a massage booked. So my day is taken care of.

    good morning

    MickC
welcome back - it looks and sounds as if you all had a wonderful time and that the weatehr was good for you
Florence and the surrounding area is perhaps my favourite city for a visit , particularly when it is not too busy, which normally means before Easter so you timed it well

    Tracey
that sounded a toughie - well done indeed on such a consistent performance. Big step up in race distance for you so a  good stepping stone for longer distances later

    K2
I recall your description of this race from previous years - and flat it was not!!

    Graham
well done -  a breakthrough to the higher ground!!

    Sharkie
but don't forget I have to shift precisely twice as much weight as you with each stride and that takes more energyimage
Tough and speedy session from you yesterday - like the sound of aggressive attitude coming to the fore

    aws
yes it was plod but with a 12;26m/m in it after a hard long run on Saturday so it shows that your recovery, and your stamina, is vastly improved

    JJ
it's de rigeur - calories in >calories out
Good run yesterday in pleasant conditions for you

    Maggie
special treat indeed!! Take care of that delicate skinimage

I am afraid my use of the English language may have painted a picture which was not quite as it was yesterday as the run itself as a hard slog. This morning it was  just a hard slog all round as a mad March morn blew its blustery way across the landscape

7.1 miles done in 62:03 and avHR131 (66%WHR) and a max of only 143 on legs were not as tired as I had feared

    1m 8:31 hr114 tail wind and downhill!!
    2m 8:59 hr131 uphill
    3m 8:34 hr131
    4m 9:06 hr135 straight into head wind/gale
    5m 8:56 hr137 Hipps Hill
    6m 8:28 hr137 some shelter
    7m 8:38 hr135

avHR slipping downwards to where I want it to go.......................

    Pammie
encouraging return to longer distance - good idea to get used to warmer weather. One way of course is to leave an extra layer of clothing - it gets a bit sweaty but has the same effect!

    Diana
you always seem to find "interesting" routes for your runs. I have an almost feline dislike of mud!!!!!

Thanks for kind comments about mileage but don't forget it is all steady state aerobic conditioning running - nothing to push the boundaries too far and adding a couple of miles onto each run at such speeds does not prove to be too taxing - well not so far!!

Tracey - No, I'm rather busy at the moment and I'm not sure if that's the right answer as I'm not sure I really understood the question.

    Afternoon all,

Very windy here so I expect it still will be when I get out to the lakes for a run later.

    TS,
Fine business doing a big 62 mile week.  I bet it was pretty rough where you ran this a.m.

    MickC,

Seems you had a great time in Tuscany region and got some good running in.  According to your pics and maps you had plenty of undulating terrain or maybe that classes as hilly stuff !  I like that rural photo it sure shows how beautiful the scenery is.

    Aws,

Well done sir, on achieving your 42 mile week, best since 2005 you say.  Wowie, I don't think I've managed that yet.

    Ceal,

If you are still looking for a 10 mile race  there is the Burton 10 on May 10th.  But maybe it's a bit too far from Surrey though !

    K2,

All respect to you on racing that hard Hogweed half.  Certainly suggests plenty of hillwork judging by your times.

    Tracey,

Great run you did on the 17 mile pathway race.  Like Aws you are well on track for FLM with those long runs.

    Graham,
Nice step up in your week mileage.  Your 20m week has been well surpassed.

Better get ready for a run now,  not sure what but will see when I get started image

    Good morning all,
A chilly day today, -11c but sunny. At least I had 10 days of 15c.

    JJ,
Our villa was just outside the village of Montefullonico in the heart of the Brunello wine district. I took that photo in a wine cellar in Montepulciano about 11k from our villa. They specialise in wines from the area and had over 150 different vineyards. As it was the off season we had it to our selves so my ladies enjoyed themselves trying to taste their complete stock. No they weren't that bad but I did do all the driving.

    TS,
The weather was great and it is a wonderful area. I am not so keen on Florence just a little too commercialised for me but the rural areas are more to my taste. There are dozens of small hill top villages that are totally unspoilt where you can get some truly great food and local wines that are just not available outside the area. Hardly anyone speaks English so it forces you to try and speak Italian, great fun.

    ceal,
I really did enjoy running the trails around Montefullonico, there was no one around but the locals who always yelled a greeting to me as I past. I did my running at dawn when it was a little cooler but I didn't notice. I loved it.
Is your friend a runner? It is a small community here so if she is a long time runner there is a good chance that we would have met each other at a race somewhere.

Today is an easy 12k for me. I am now focusing in on my first half next month so one of my speed sessions this week will be a 10k race pace tempo.

    Impey,
Most of the villages we visited did not allow cars so we walked everywhere as well as climbing all the towers we could find. That was a lot tougher than my running.
The pic below taken in Assisi shows a fraction of a typical climb including the tower at the top.

    http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb16/MickC_bucket/_IMG_0231.jpg

Definitely classified as a hill workout
