quick update on the entries now over 200 and coming in thick and fast, poor postman, So if you know anyone still undecided get them to enter now. Entries on the day will only be possible if we have not reached our limit. You have been warned!!
Looks like a nice race. I'm making my way around the south coast it would seem - done Brighton Beacon, twice and Hastings half - both brilliant races. The Beachy Head I am saving for when I feel particularly sadistic! I prefer fast-ish halves in the warm up to marathons (I'm doing Abingdon) just to boost the confidence.
But this looks like fun and good value - undulating or not, I'll hopefully be ready for this one!
I'm coming from London and may decide to stop over - any recommendations?
Hi Gingerkid Welcome you are gonna love this course. There are plenty of Hotels and B&B in Margate try Thanet Tourism website, However if you want to stay in a lovely period Hotel within a short walk of the start the Walpole Bay Hotel is lovely if a little more expensive that some.
Hi, just wanted to say hello, i have entered the half, it will be my first half marathon in preparation for great north and the amsterdam full marathon, hope everyone is ok take care
I can't answer your question 'coz this is my first half. I suppose therefore that I am assured of a PB, but for others - who knows... it is a bit hilly, but also (normally) has a high %age of good quality club runners.. Read into that what you will!
Mark F and Dave B are the ones to answer probably (as they are part of the org committee) and therefore know it better than most.
AARTTF - I did this half marathon last year, the first half is hilly. The hills that I rember are the one before the water station at 3 mile and then just after. Then grass one just after another water station that climbs upto the park. There was always some sort in incline, but what goes up my come down.
Also did this last year. There a a few inclines in the course but what Tracey says is right, you come back down almost all the hills you run up as the course is pretty much a loop. The exception to this is the area round by the park at about mile 5 where you go up through the park on the way out but not on the way back.
It's a good scenic half-marathon. I would rate the "difficulty" level as somewhere close to the Dartford Half if that helps.
I recall the hill after the 5 mile water station. There's a green verge one can run on/up and then the incline through the park follows. Happily it gets easier after that.
I know it's been said on this thread earlier but last year it was so hot and that made the hills even harder.
Mark and I are both on holiday - He's in Greece and I'm in Thanet. How the rich folks live :-)...
The course is not a guaranteed PB course - it is too undulating for that, but neither is it silly hilly (though remember I am rating it against fell races Wales).
If you want to do the race, then I would say enter now. The half is liklely to fill up before the day in my estimation. The full marathon will likely still have spaces.
If you enter now, there may be a slight delay in your entry being processed. I am a substitute entry clerk, so things take me slightly longer than it does the regular clerk...
Hope the last few weeks of training are going well for folks who have entered.
Important: a note about people intending to wear headphones in the race
The race takes in roads, shared public paths, and cycle tracks. Therefore for YOUR safety and the safety of others on the route we must insist that:
Headphones are NOT used in this race. This will ensure that: you can hear instructions from the police, marshalls and ambulance crews; you can hear cyclists and other runners; that these people will know that you have heard and understood things said to you.
We understand that many people find music motivating. However, the half will have a good number of runners and other road/path users and it can be narrow at times, where spatial awareness is vital.
These rules are akin to those in triathlon of no headphones usage at all.
Does anyone know if there is a map showing the course. As this is the first time I have run this one. I can see where it starts but no other details, not even on the paperwork I received today with my number.

See you in September
Well done poddler - someone had to get the 100!
I've just entered this interesting looking event as my only half marathon in Chicago marathon training.
Are we looking at a PB potential course?!

What goes up must come down.

I had a minor op last week and won't be able to run so can offer to marshall if needed.
I can see where it starts but no other details, not even on the paperwork I received today with my number.
