Trains - do I risk it

I have always stayed in London the night before (live in Bonnie Scotland) but due to various reasons I find that I may have to stay outwith London on the Saturday night in West Sussex.

I have checked the trains and I can get several trains on the Sunday morning from about 6am onwards changing at London Bridge for Blackheath.

Now I know the trains can be notoriously late etc and that the trains from London Bridge will be already heaving with peeps by the time they get there.

Was wondering if anyone had travelled up on the Brighton Line on the morning in previous years and how feasible is this? Is it better to get a taxi from London Bridge to as near Blackheath as can get or push onto an already crowded train?

It may not come to this but trying to cover all options at the moment before deciding if I need to defer or not.
