Look. Forget about the horror stories. It's about having a blast. If you run a HM in 1:27 then you have a chance of beating the train if you are marathon ready. If not, it's about running in the countryside and having a party.
Just as soon as I finish I will be hitting the beer tent.
It's actually the day I come home from my holiday - but maybe I'll be able to persuade my wife to catch up on her share of the driving (as I shall probably have driven almost every mile since leaving home).
I had this race down as a must do for 2006 but I've been putting off entering for 2 reasons: 1: I only want to do it if I can beat the train and I did't know wether I'd be fast enough. 2: I sprained my ankle a while ago and it's still not up to off road running.
Anyway, I've just posted my entry.
My speed has improved a lot over the last month, so I think beating the train is a definitve possibility, I just need to work on my endurance and with possibley my most important race for this year just 2 weeks before I'll have avoid the trails to safe guard my ankle but with 11 weeks? to go it should be ok.
I really want to do this race as well, but have been so naff about entering, still havent, think its cause Im concerned about the accomadation and what will the kids do whilst Im running????
Did the 10k last year, I don't cope well with hot running conditions and 2pm in mid August is a bit off putting particularly as last year was about 75f. The 10k is the last section of the main race and you still race the train which comes in just around the hour if memory serves me. It is a morning start and you get a bus or the train out to the start, the course is very demanding but enjoyable. We stayed in that site just out of town with the shower block and small shop it was fine apart from some of our German cousins trying to party into the night. I've got my entry in for the 10k again and I've even pursuaded my wife to camp with me for the first time. See you down there
Fitn40lots, At the start/finish area they normally have a bouncy castle type kiddies things. There's plenty of room for bat & ball etc and though I haven't done it for a couple of years I think the red arrows put on a display wherby they land in the field. Ther's a large tent/marquee for sandwiches and drinks. Also you are only 5 mins walk from the beach or town. Though theres little to do for them in the town.
good luck contacting the organisers, it'll be easier joining the masons. I e mailed back in June asking if they'd got my entry and train reservations as I wanted to book a hotel-no reply. I then wrote to the address to ask if they'd got my entry and was e mailed a few weeks later with a rather abrupt "yeah, we got it" .The only thing missing was "and Mickey sleeps with the fishes if you bother us again" .
Seriously it does all seem rather secretive and drawn out.
I sent mine off the day after the race last year, cause we enjoyed it so much. In January the bank cancelled the cheque cause it had been over 6 months. The organizers sent the cheque back and we issued another one - Guess what that hasnt either.
Well thats it my entry is in again. This will be my fifth year. I've beat it the last 3 years, but i'm a year older and i reckon we are in for a real hot one this year.

Did this last year and boy is it tough!! Must admit it's probably one of the most enjoyable races I have done though.

Any suggestions or enlightenment available???

Take care Paul
Sarn Helen is harder Chris.
Does anyone know if there are still any B&b's vacant up there?
Chris,
Dunno about the B&B's. I think the train comes in at about 1:50 and from what I remember I think the race is more like 15.5 than 14.3.
Have you considered the Seaview 17 (nee 20) on 30th July ?
I know, Alan gave me a thing for it on Sun but I have already entered the SV17. Will consider the 5.75 if I don't feel like driving to minehead.
Has anyone else had their cheques cashed and have you all heard anything from the organizers??
