Did my first 5 mile jog today without too much pain!

Got number today, will check it soon and post it up.

    See you on Monday!

I have a sore hamstring and will start and race, but if it gets sore I'm dropping back for some pace making (38-40min). I won't be injurying myself over a 10K...

NRG-B - Look up Hatfield Forest. The cafe is in the middle - you just drive in and park up as far in as you can go. I think there is a small charge to get in though.

I have a sore back, tight hamstring and aching groin. I'll have raced a 10k 40 hours previously.

But then I'm from Barnsley AC

    No pace making for me:-)

Pants - new word for my lexicon `injurying'. Like it:-)

Pants - who is the mystery runner in 38-40 min shape???

Wabo, it gets worse. Ran in a mid-week league at Stevenage tonight...54:08. In fact, BrynR also ran in this race. How'd it go, Bryn?

Tomorrow, I'm doing the LFOTM 5k in Hyde Park so I'll have to see if I can still get under 25 minutes after tonight's effort.

Sorry Richard, I didn't see you!! Hope it went okay, normally I'd stay and cheer the whole team through, but unfortunately I needed to get beyond Stansted airport then back to Stortford in about an hour from Stevenage so had to set off pretty quick!

Went okay, foot didn't give me too much grief, clearly wasn't in shape though. COurse was all road which was good, but a few too many undulations for me, the climbs just destroyed my leg muscles. Got 3rd in the end, 34:2x so I'm about a minute down on where I was at the start of the year, which hopefully I cna make up in the next few weeks.

    PANTMAN/BR:
Ive got lactic legs, buggered Hamstrings according to BT. and lungs full of 3-months worth of chest infections, aiming for 35mins but if things go belly up, then dropping back to finish in 37mins ;)

Whos next with the excuses??? lol

I've picked up a cold, and my back was bad during my 10k :P. My injury also appears to have shifted to my other foot!
  • Options
I've eased the training right back now, so I have no idea how the hammy will be. I still paln to go out for a PB, but I will not hurt myself with so much ahead and things going so well.

Jordo - I can't reveal the two people I may help pace, but you know them - often trained with them at Harriers. If I said that they should not be doing the race, hence my secrecy, you'll have all the clues you need. If at this point your jaw drops and you say "surely not THAT fast!?!" then you know who I mean. And the male is the faster of the two - he could go under 39 if all goes well; she'll be doing well to get under 40.

    C'mon Pants, don't be coy.

    Trained at Maidstone Harriers...

Needs even pacing to get the best out of himself....

    Male....

Should not be racing at the moment....

It's good to see you doing so much to help MICKSTA:-)

    I didn't want to embarrass him... ;-)

    PANTMAN:
If its who I think it is and he does sub 40mins then he pretty much top his age group in the UK for his age and I will be lets say more than just a little impressed, same for the other person as well if its who I think it is :)

    Hi,

Can I still register for this race or am I too late?

    Please help!

  • Options
Lisa - there were a few entries on the day last year if I recall. Too late for postal entry now.
  • Options
Yes I have an excuse and it's all Micksta's fault!

Track sesh at IEK on Thurs (200m reps) and my hamstrings still hurt!!!

    JENNYD:
Your be fine once warmed up trust me! just remember to take the 1k steady then let rip gradually there after ;P

My feet really kill today, clubbing last night was silly enough to decide in my drunken state to actually walk home from town with my mate in black shoes, man, those 3-4miles really hurt! lol

Good luck, y'all. Due to unforeseen circumstances means I can't come. I'll look forward to your race reports especially for the runners who will be paced by Pantman.

What a fantastic course - felt like slightly downhill most of the way!

  • Options
heebiejeebie, were you running a different course to me? I found that hard today for some reason. Managed 42:38, quicker than last year, but nearly a minute slower than my Ashford 10k time from February.

Didn't make it to the picnic, hope it went well? But I did see a certain young forumite walking around after the finish with a burger! (Bryn)

I got inside 45 minutes, my target, with 44 min 39 sec. I haven't raced in a 10k for over 10 years and it was my first race at any distance in all that time.

A great event and brilliant venue. A big thanks to the staff, marshalls, air cadets etc. Good job that I left my wallet in the car or I might have been tempted to buy a few bits of kit.

I got to the 5k marker in just over 22 minutes and didn't think that I'd break the 45 minute mark. I neeed to work on my speed and stamina over the last 3k.

    See you next year.

Same here Heebie, quite a bit of uphill running to be honest!

SEt off a bit fast, but then rallied and maintained somethin like pace to about 4k when I then dropped off badly. Then just before 5k Pants came level and he pulled me through the town and then back up till just before the 7k mark where his hamstring twinged and he decided to try and pace Timmy. I then pushed on a bit, caught hte chap in front, but then the one ahead of that was too far away. Finished in 33:52, so about 36 seconds behind where I was at the start of the year, but a lot of that fitness should come back quickly ( desperately hoping!).

Pantman went back and ran in with Timmy who went under 40 minutes at 9 years old!! ( I really felt like an old timer then!)Chloe finished in 41:30 ish, and his youngest 3 year old son managed to complete the whole 1 mile course without stopping once! Was beaming the whole way!

the runner under the name John Broom, got beaten by me, Pants, Hilly, Micksta and Timmy. Not a good day, didn't really seem like himself to be honest ;O).

Big thanks to pants actually, he pulled me through the hardest part and was then insisted I went to the picnic and took me over there. Many thanks! Nice to meet some of you for the first time including JennyD, and to catch up with those I'd met before. Nice food at the picnic as well!

Veyr nice day overall, just can't help but wish the rain could have held off for the day!

On my own race- 33:52 with a fast start, it's okay, but people I was beating ran under 33 today and that was a little depressing. Way off the pace at the moment, but just hoping that I'll be able to regain my fitness quickly now I'm able to jog again.

    BRYN R:
Great race, I was very impressed with your time! must agree with you about the Hills. much more hill running than I thought also, as JENNYD said it was virtually flat! hmmmm right!

    Myself...
Pretty good race actually for me on my current fitness levels, sensible start did not try and keep with anyone and ran my own race, went through 5k in 17:33, found 6k-7k rather tough with a hill and headwind, plus my hammies stiffened. finished strongly in 35:52secs.

Picnic was great also, really enjoyed meeting the gang and having a good chat, its nice we can all get together now and then and socialise makes this forum much more enjoyable experience.

The catering was top notch as well, great food! PANTMAN and family! :)

Bryn and Micksta, that's pretty impressive running. Sorry my (pregnant) wife and I didn't make it to the picnic, but having spent the morning watching she wanted to get home for a kip.

    What a great day!

Had BR and Hilly staying over which was great fun (as always). Had a lovely picnic (which the weather just about held out for) with Bryn, Micksta and JennyD along as well. A great day out!

    Racing was superb too!

I was still umming and ahing about whether to race or pace even as the gun was about to go. Finally gave it a spin - hammy held out till 7K - eased straight back when it hurt to prevent damage. But managed to get 7K done at 5:20 pace (33:20 10k pace) - PB pace, but HR much lower than last year. Only up to 90%maxHR and as low as 86% in places. So very plesed with that. Best fitness of my life now. Was nice to be able to help out Bryn with some pacing for a bit too.

Mrs Pants has improved a lot of late and was looking to smash her 52min PB from last year's race. We set her a tough, strecthing the limits target of 47min - she hit it to the second (watch time)! She was well chuffed as well she might be! (I'll try and get her to do a race report in due course).

Hilly was kind enough to be a 40min pacer for the kids. We realised that they might not quite be up to the times we had initially hoped, but we were confident that one of them (at least) would break 40.
Chloe dropped off the pace after a couple of km but held her rhythm and paced herself well - no sudden dropping back.
Timmy held pace with Hilly through to 6km where she surged on for her own time (as pre-arranged). I waited for him and picked up the pacing from 7.5km. He was running strong and evenly and even had a group of people using him as a pacer!
He was a few seconds inside 40min pace at 8km and 9km before pushing a little more in the final km to come home in 39:45! Not bad for a nine year old!
Chloe ran well and paced herself beautifully to finish in 41:30 something (she was unsure of exact time). Again, a superb time for a 13yr old girl!

The younger girls (Phoebe, 6, and Lydia, 4) both ran the 1M(+) fun run as planned and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. It was Lydia's first fun run and she loves her medal!

Even our youngest, Joseph, 3, joined in! The plan was for him top walk/run around with some other toddlers and Timmy and I. But he decide to run the whole way without stopping! Yet another superstar in the clan! :D Everytime someone clapped and cheered him he looked at them beaming and went a little faster - I've never seen have so much fun!

So a great day out, all in all, for this family!

Sorry to hear about your hamstring, but totally thrilled for Timmy. One to watch for the future.

I got my sub 40, in fact finished in 37.56 (unofficial) Hit 5k in 18.57, so over the moon about my performance, especially when you said the 5k marker was in the wrong place.

In case you don't remember me, we talked before the race started (Vienna Marathon man!).

See you again soon and go easy on the leg.

DN, I must have stalked you the whole way! Finished in 37:56 by my watch, also a huge PB and first time under 40 for me. I remember seeing someone matching your description pass at around 1k and stay within 20 metres or so until the final 800m or so where I think I pretty much caught you. Well run.

Pantman, must have been you I saw at around 7k waiting on the other side of the road then, congratulations to all the kids and to yourself on a fantastic return to fitness these last few months.

Great day for our club with over 60% of our current members running (38 of 61) and around 15 pb's as well.

If any of you fast guys want to try some 'actual'** hills then the Tilty hilly 5 next week is the one for you.

**I might let you have the one from 6 to 7k but the others don't even count as hills in Essex which people think is flat!

    Humph

How interesting, as I felt I'd finished fast clocking 3:37 for the last kilometer, however I was overtaken by an Ealing lady runner about 500m out, and she successfully held me off up to the finish.

As far as I can remember she was the only one to pass me near the end, but everything is generally a haze from about 2k out, although I do remember passing a clubmate (yellow vest) with about 1k to go. He clocked himself at 38.01, I guess you would have passed him up the samll climb just before the finish.

Humph, seems like it was a good day for local clubs then. The club I run for is Witham, and we had 39 out of 135 members running, with others supporting. Hoping for a good turn out at the Tilty Hilly 5m this Sunday as well.
