  • Oh, and I've decided to order one of the photos from yesterdays race as well.
  • Had a fab race yesterday, really pleased to knock a minute of my pb and came in at 53.31 (unofficial) definitely a day of pbs.
  • DN, certain I did not catch you but did pass your clubmate, I think, did he have a loud and distinctive HRM? Must admit that my time is watch based from start line to finish line, not gun to finish as HBO official timings historically have been approximations, hence you may have been a good few metres in front, mind you I'm very happy having 'only' posted 3:18 at FLM when aiming sub 3:10.

LW, race photos? do you have a link available?

Well done TP, perfect conditions for fast times I thought despite the wet roads towards the end.

pantman, timmy whizzed past my other half!! He told me that a young boy past him, must have been your lad. Excellent and a whole family doing it!!!

  • Humph

Saw your splits posted on the sub 3.15 threads and found it amazing how close we were to each other on the way round. It appears that you were more or less sat on my shoulder from about half way.

As a word of encouragement your splits add to 37.55....... so perhaps grounds for optimism for both of us! Well done on the sub 40 too!

LW.....I'm also interested for the photo link to see the incredible Humph stalking me!
  • Pants – How long before we hear Timmy and Chloe saying “keep up Dad!”? That’s an amazing time from Timmy, I wonder if there is an under 10s UK record.

Nice to see that you are going well too, looking good for North Downs with a month to go.

Micksta – Good return to form!!

Hopefully... this'll be a pic of me and Pants. Nice that htey got the pic of the one part of the race when we were racing!

Really enjoyed the race and especially pacing Pant's kids for some of the way. A nice pic of Timmy just behind me on page 9 or 10 I think.

Wabo, I think many of the men were amazed at Timmy's pace and stamina. I was constantly asked in the first 5k if he was doing the whole race. Only one guy was upset by this as you know, but he soon realised who not to mess with :-)

Great to spend time with others off the forum at the picnic kindly provided by Pants and Mrs P - thanks both!
  • Any ideas when the results will be up in full?
  • DN - I thought you were just ahead of us at the finish - it must been a clubmate of yours, I guess.

Jordo - no such thing sadly - you are not allowed to run 10K till 15 or 16 in the UK (hence Tim being numberless). A totally stupid ruling, IMHO - esp. when many of the African teenagers are world class at that age.
What there is though is an age-group world record list (http://www.arrs.net/SARec.htm), which is sketchy admittedly, but lists the WR for a 9yr old over 5K (track) as 19:42 - Tim went through half way about that time! But I imagine there are many young African kids much faster. Either way, it matters not a jot - he's doing well, fit and having great fun. We'll leave it a few more years before we worry too much about times. We'll focus on Chloe's training more (don't forget how well she did) and let Tim come along for the ride.

Hilly - Massive thanks to you! They'd never have done it without you. It was a pleasure to meet you at last - you're always welcome in this house!

Glad everyone enjoyed the picnic too. :-D
  • Pants - Totally agree with you. Most important things are that they are keeping fit, healthy and enjoying it and clearly they are.

Certainly can't ignore Chloe's achievement, in some ways it's more amazing. I've run in a few 10ks where she would have been first lady with that time!!
  • Pantman - seen you often on the forum but never met you before. I was the one, one place ahead of Timmy and it was a pleasure to shake his hand at the end, as he chased me to my first sub 40.
Clearly you have a running dynasty in the making.......
  • jd - were you the tall guy from Tiptree? I think there were quite a few who got under 40 by following Timmy! My initial thought when I saw a pack behind him at 9km was "these guys don't want to be beaten by a 9yr old!", but I'm sure it was just convenient pacing..?
All those finishing around Tim were very pleasant and gracious to him - much appreciated. The friendliness of runners is part of what makes the race day experience such a joy for him.
  • Pantman - no, not Tiptree - I was nearby Timmy (and I assume Hilly?) to about 4k and then was ahead - it was only in the last 600m I heard you behind me, encouraging Timmy to keep going to get under 40.
  • jd - OK - You must have been one of the many he was pulling in over the final km! ;-)
Remember the day you beat him (just) - it may provide bragging rights in a few years... :D

On the official results all three of our times seem 3 secs slower than our watch times - anybody else find this?
  • Unusually mine was the same at 39-41, whereas normally my watch is 2 or 3 secs 'optimistic'
  • Any of you guys up for the Harvel 5 on Sat?
  • I'll be in the Lakes doing the Garburn trail 20km. Probably not 'quite' as flat as the HBO

    Pantman,

    Just checked the official times.
Now I only start my watch as I cross the start line and the difference between what they've given me and what my Garmin recorded is alarming. I've been quoting 51:50 and they've got me down for a 53:34. As I queued in the finishers' funnel, I heard a timekeeper uttering an 'Ooops!' type comment and I'm sure that they can't cope with the large volume of runners at the end. Your 3 seconds has, no doubt, been magnified as more and more runners cross the line. Still, it won't spoil an otherwise great day/race and I'll certainly be back next year.

    As you were!
I was confusing my Wheathampstead with my Hatfield Broad Oak result.

At Hatfield Broad Oak I apparently did 52:35, which is still a minute different. So the same logic could apply.

I can do better than all of that! I apparently did 38.16, and I know I DNS'd that day! They have me down as femalse super vet winner! Lol, I have spoken to them though and told them, much as I wish, there is NO WAY!!!
